Meet Kyle Primm | Furniture refinisher & woodworker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Primm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyle, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
A quote I think about atleast once a week is “comparison is the thief of joy.”
There are a lot of furniture refinishers in this business and with all the different social media platforms, there are a lot of imitators as well. With editing, filters, and expensive cameras, it’s easy to post content that may look perfect that in fact may not be that great.
A few months ago, I was constantly looking at others work and comparing myself and my work which was bringing a lot of self doubt and a lot of “why not me” as far as followers, paid partnerships, and all that is content creation.
Not only does this quote help me to stay grounded, it also reminds me that I’d proudly put my work up against anyone’s in real life and be confident in the results.
Refinishing furniture isn’t just slapping paint on and putting on fancy hardware. There’s a lot of work involved to get to that part including picking the furniture up, cleaning the pieces, prep, priming, knowing what products to use when and under what conditions, as well as 100 other scenarios and what to do.
By not comparing my work to others, it allows me to enjoy the process and my knowledge and to appreciate each and every final product.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are a self made, furniture refinishing and woodworking small business! It started with my wife and I flipping on the side, and through lots of hard work, determination and late hours, it is now my full time job. I put a lot of time and dedication into what I do, and I am proud of and stand behind my work.
There’s a lot of challenges in this field, the market is all of over the place. We have faced a lot of challenges with the financial crisis everyone is facing and have had to get creative and promote taking on a lot of custom work to continue to get by.
We just want to say, keep supporting small business! Your purchases support family and not a CEOS vacation home.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would take them to downtown Holly! It’s filled with great boutiques and antique shops for browsing! Plus some great restaurants for food and drinks.
If we extended out further we would take a trip to one of the Great Lakes for a trip to the beach !!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The support of our family with watching our kids while we have to work long hours or drive great lengths to pick up and drop off furniture.
