We had the good fortune of connecting with LaKendra Norman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaKendra, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My all-time favorite quote: ‘Show love even when they don’t, or else you become one of them.’ It’s my guiding light. I repeat it to myself and others regularly. To me, it’s a reminder to always extend love, even when it might not be reciprocated.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not about being a pushover or tolerating disrespect. It’s about recognizing that unless someone poses a real threat to you or your loved ones, not every situation warrants a reaction.

I refuse to compromise my loving, kind, generous nature just to match someone else’s energy, especially if they haven’t yet learned to love themselves. They don’t have to love me for me to remain true to who I am.

Living by this quote keeps me blessed, joyful, abundant, and in good favor. I reap what I sow, and it multiplies in ways that make my life truly magnificent, even in the face of challenges.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The journey from where I began in business to where I stand today is leagues apart, yet I know I’m still on a long and exciting path! Back when I started, I thought my vision was massive, but now, looking back, it seems minuscule in comparison. Nevertheless, every journey begins with a single step.

In 2017, I made the bold move to leave behind my career in banking, relinquishing financial security for the freedom to create and manage my own time. No regrets, not one.

I kicked off with making t-shirts and hoodies. At first, it was just me, my computer, printer, press, and my husband, being my biggest cheerleader. I faced challenges, including having my designs taken by someone I had considered a mentor. That’s when I taught myself the ins and outs of growing a business. Family support was sparse, friends showed animosity, so I took to the streets, selling to strangers. There were orders left unpaid, prompting me to learn about charging deposits. Each obstacle became an opportunity to pivot and focus on what I could control, rather than dwelling on what I couldn’t.

With time, my design skills improved. I rebranded, changed the logo, established Noir Royale Brand as an LLC, and ventured into Italian-made shoes. Custom jackets and trench coats soon followed suit, and that’s when things really started to take off. We achieved trademark status in 2021 and even made it into Vogue Italia. From September 25th to October 5th, my Python Blanc shoes graced the pages of Vanity Fair Italia. It’s a testament to the fact that I never gave up.

I want to take a moment to give a heartfelt shout-out to Derrick Norman Sr., my incredible husband of 16 years, a companion I’ve cherished for a whopping 22 years! He is the solid foundation of our family, a pillar of strength who’s been unwavering in his support right from the very beginning of our journey together.

From backing my educational pursuits to standing by my side through various career shifts, entrepreneurial endeavors, and my paths of spirituality, mental and physical well-being, he’s been the steady force behind it all. We navigate the waters of co-parenting seamlessly, allowing me to be my truest self, unapologetically. Our love operates on a level that’s profound and extraordinary, something I hadn’t witnessed before our union.

Beyond being an exceptional father and an extraordinary husband, Derrick is also my partner in the Love them Norman’s Podcast, a venture founded on over two decades of collective research and experiences. But he’s more than that; he’s my confidant, my best friend, my fighting companion, and my partner in every victory.

Having such an extraordinary man by my side is a source of immense gratitude. I eagerly anticipate many more years of health, happiness, and prosperity for both him and our cherished family. Here’s to the incredible journey ahead!
