We had the good fortune of connecting with Brea Oakes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brea, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Investing in myself both personally and professionally. I have done this through education specifically related to boudoir and business. There is always something to learn and improve on. Growth is important. If you are not investing in yourself, how do you expect your clients to?

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My studio creates intimate portraiture for women and couples to love and celebrate the skin they are in. My bigger mission in life is to empower others through simple life and mindset changes. I have created a fun and empowering group online which is all about girl power and community. It is important for my clients to know that this is so much more than just pretty pictures. This is a life changing experience when working with my studio and it will only enhance the self love journey someone is on. I am also planning my first big workshop in which women can come together and Rise up into empowerment. I am so excited for this event and to create many more events like this in the community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely start in the studio for an empowering boudoir session! From there, I could either get dressed up and go to a fancy fun dinner downtown or decide to stay in cozy clothes and order Chinese or pizza. Since she would be here a week, we would definitely head out to the beach on Lake Michigan for a day and do some beach glass searching and shopping. Other than that, I am pretty laid back and would just go with the flow each day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have an amazing team of other boudoir photographers from all over the country that I have become close to and I would not be where I am without them. We cheer each other on, bounce ideas off each other and help each other grow. It is truly about community.
