We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Irwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jay, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is a part of everyone’s life every day. I find it really freeing to embrace that fact instead of trying to insulate ourselves from it. I’m continually learning from and surrounding myself with people who have made great plays in business, and they all have a list of failures behind each victory. I guess my hope is to continue to be open to uncertainty.

What should our readers know about your business?
I work with an amazing team to run a studio, produce corporate and non-profit video, and provide marketing for motorsports athletes. I am not sure how i got here. I never could have planned this. I would say just trying to use my No’s as little as possible and see where opportunities go is where i have experienced the most success. I am not saying that i just sit back and watch things happen but i do feel like it is a dance between adapting to what is going on while driving towards a goal. I have learned along the way that people matter above all else. Life is way more rewarding when you build something with others, and when relationships get tested double down on empathy, grace, and love. There are massive rewards on the other side of conflict.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hummmmm. Thats a fun question. I think i would have to take them to Lake Michigan for sure. People who have not seen the big lake have no idea. I would probably do a breakfast at the Mudpenny. Possibly some salmon fishing, a gravel bike ride or hike some trails. Catching a concert at Fredrick Meijer Gardens is always great. Depending on the season catching an orchard, or one of many restaurants with outdoor seating is always fun.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I absolutely want to give my shout out to my wife Darci. She has empowered me, inspired me, stuck with me through all of the fails and hardships. She makes daily sacrifices that allow me to show up and is absolutely apart of any success we have had.
