Meet Ciara Glass | Dance Studio Owner & Dance Company Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ciara Glass and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ciara, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My dance studio Haus of Glass Dance and dance company, C.Glass Dance Company, plays a significant role in positively impacting both our local community and the broader world in several meaningful ways:
1. **Artistic Expression and Awareness:**
Through our company performances, especially the upcoming one “Traff-ICK” addressing the issue of human trafficking, we contribute to raising awareness about critical societal issues. This not only educates our local community but also has the potential to spark conversations and action on a global scale.
2. **Community Engagement:**
At Haus of Glass Dance and in C.Glass Dance Company, we’ve fostered a strong sense of community among our members, creating a supportive and inclusive environment. This sense of belonging and collaboration extends beyond the studio, positively impacting the lives of our dancers and their connections within the community.
3. **Emotional and Personal Growth:**
We place a strong emphasis on artistic and personal growth through dance, empowering individuals to build self-confidence and emotional depth. This personal growth radiates into the community, encouraging others to pursue their passions and express themselves freely.
4. **Inspiration:**
Our staff and company members showcase the power of dance to transform lives, inspiring both young dancers and adults to discover their passion for dance and pursue their dreams. This inspirational aspect of our work has a ripple effect, motivating others to explore the world of dance.
5. **Promotion of Diversity and Inclusion:**
We are committed to inclusivity, ensuring that people from all backgrounds and abilities have the opportunity to engage with dance. This promotes diversity and inclusion, fostering a more open-minded and accepting community.
6. **Collaboration:**
Our collaborations with local organizations, schools, and artists broaden our studio and company’s reach and impact, strengthening the connections within our community and contributing to a more vibrant cultural landscape.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Certainly, I’d be happy to share more about C.Glass Dance Company and Haus of Glass Dance Studio:
1. **What Sets Us Apart:**
What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to inclusivity and artistic growth. We provide a unique space where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can express themselves through dance. We prioritize personal and artistic development over competition, fostering a positive and nurturing environment.
2. **What I’m Most Proud Of:**
I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built, both within our dance company and dance studio. Seeing our dancers grow not only in their technical skills but also in their self-confidence and creativity is immensely rewarding.
3. **Professional Journey:**
My journey in the dance industry began at a young age, and I had the privilege of training under accomplished choreographers and performing nationally. After founding the studio and the dance company, I continued to expand my own dance education and explore various techniques and philosophies.
Since founding C.Glass Dance Company and Haus of Glass Dance Studio, my main goals have been to inspire the younger generation of dancers to work hard and reach for their dreams. I also firmly believe in inviting every adult to discover their passion for dance. Whether individuals have grown up dancing or have never stepped foot into a studio, I am passionate about helping them gain confidence and grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually through the amazing art of dance.
This professional journey has been a dynamic and fulfilling one, marked by continuous growth and a commitment to making dance accessible to all.
4. **Challenges and Overcoming Them:**
It hasn’t always been easy. Building a dance community from the ground up comes with its challenges. However, I’ve learned to embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth. Persistence and a passion for dance have been my driving forces in overcoming obstacles.
5. **Lessons Learned:**
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned is that personal and artistic growth is an ongoing journey. It’s not a destination but a path we travel throughout our lives. Every dancer, regardless of their level, can continue to evolve, learn, and improve. This perspective has allowed me to approach my own dance education with humility and curiosity, always seeking new techniques, styles, and philosophies. In the dance world, where competition can be fierce, I’ve come to understand the value of collaboration. Rather than viewing other dancers and companies as competitors, I see them as potential collaborators. Dance becomes a richer experience when we work together, share ideas, and create something beautiful as a collective. This approach has not only enriched my artistic work but has also strengthened my connections within the dance community. Dance is not just about physical movement; it has the power to transform lives. Through dance, individuals can discover newfound confidence, overcome personal challenges, and express their emotions in ways they might not have thought possible. Witnessing these transformations in my students and fellow dancers has been a constant source of inspiration and a reminder of the profound impact dance can have. Building a dance company and studio from the ground up comes with its fair share of challenges and setbacks. I’ve learned the importance of adaptability and resilience in the face of these challenges. It’s about finding creative solutions, staying focused on the mission, and never losing sight of the passion that drives us. The ability to bounce back from setbacks has been instrumental in our growth and success. Inclusivity is not just a buzzword; it’s a fundamental principle that should guide the dance community. By welcoming individuals of all backgrounds, abilities, and genders, we’ve created a more diverse and vibrant dance family. This inclusivity not only enriches our artistic work but also contributes to a more open-minded and accepting community.
Dance is a powerful tool for addressing important social issues. Our recent performance on human trafficking is a testament to the fact that dance can be a medium for raising awareness and inspiring change. It’s a reminder that art has the potential to shine a light on challenging topics and encourage action.
6. **Message to the World:**
I want the world to know that dance is not just a physical activity; it’s a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Whether you’ve danced your whole life or have never set foot in a studio, there’s a place for you here. At C.Glass Dance Company and Haus of Glass Dance Studio, we believe in the power of dance to transform lives and invite everyone to discover their passion for it.

**A Weekend Getaway in Grand Rapids: Exploring Nature, Culture, and Dance**
Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a city that seamlessly blends art, culture, and culinary delights. If my best friend were visiting for a weekend, I’d ensure they experience the best this city has to offer.
Culinary Delights
Our adventure would commence with a warm welcome at a downtown hotel, providing a cozy haven for our week getaway. After settling in, we’d embark on a culinary journey at Founders Brewing Co., a local gem renowned for its craft beers and hearty pub-style cuisine.
Art and Dance Exploration
Our next day would begin with a delightful morning coffee ritual at Madcap Coffee, setting a perfect tone for the day ahead. We’d then make our way to the Downtown Market, an enchanting food hall featuring diverse dining options, perfect for brunch.
Then off to take a deep dive into the world of art and dance. We’d explore captivating exhibitions and local talent at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. As dance enthusiasts, we’d participate in a But, as dance enthusiasts, the highlight of the day would be a dynamic dance class at Haus of Glass Dance Studio, immersing ourselves in the vibrant dance community of Grand Rapids. One evening would also have to be dedicated to seeing a mesmerizing performance by the C.Glass Dance Company.
Nature and Parks
I’d show how easy it is to retreat into nature in Grand Rapids. We’d spend our final morning at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, surrounded by breathtaking art installations and lush landscapes.
Afterwards, we’d unwind with a picnic at Rosa Parks Circle, a public space in the heart of downtown, perfect for relaxation and people-watching. Or we could sprang our time at Millennium Park, where we’d swim, hike, and picnic amidst the natural beauty. Dinner would be a relaxed affair, perhaps enjoying the food truck festival at the park.
