We had the good fortune of connecting with Ken Brass and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ken, what do you attribute your success to?
Being consistent, genuine and respectful to the artist and our culture. Being a safe space that’s artistry first not profit driven

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Part of my journey was being a poet with a splash of comedy but my passion truly came out in show production and building spaces for artist to be respected and treated equally rather your a verified artist with 200k followers or just cutting your teeth in the scene. Long as your serious about your craft and respect of the culture and fellow artist it’s equal love and respect for everybody. Those things along with being a fan of Detroit artist since a kid going back to days of COI, Rock Bottom, the Hip Hop Shop, the Teamstaz(RIP Cobb, Luko), etc are key to my success along with my team that holds down operations while I host my Right hand Krys and my left hand Ricky. My team is the shit!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Check out a Lions or Pistons game, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Motown Museum, get some of food from a Coney(Detroiter’s know that’s a requirement lol), it’s so much to do in and around Detroit right now. From open mics to shopping and anywhere inbetween

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to the Detroit artist community. I am not here without them, without their trust in me/my platform. I don’t make it going into year 9 of this without that. Also shout out goes to every DJ that’s been the heartbeat to my shows DJ Equad and Hollywoodbaby(R.I.P to both fuck Covid) DJ L Boog, Culinary and Coolbreeze of the Coaltion DJ’s Detroit and a slew of other DJ’s that’s done spot duties over the year. I literally can have a show without the DJ!
