Meet Tatyana Collins | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatyana Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatyana, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of this brand is to also stay true to its name. To be Not So Cliche all the way and always finding new ways to express the creativeness through the clothing. Being consistent is a big key so that people know that this is not a fly by night brand it’s a genuine business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Not So Cliche is a black owned brand from Detroit, Mi. Its mother/daughter operated. It took a lot of learning to get to where we are. We had to overcome things that were thrown at us in order to be able to be the business we are today. Business is something that you are constantly learning everyday and so I feel that we are always overcoming something that we didn’t know about or did incorrectly. I want the world to know that this a brand that plans on being around for a long time and will overcome everything that is placed in front of us in order to prosper higher
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my Bestfriend came to town, which I’ve been trying to get her to do! We would go downtown Detroit. They have built the downtown area up very well and there is a lot of things to do and places to eat. So we would go somewhere in campus Martius area and get some food and maybe go to the midway park they have and go go-karting and do all the activities they have there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom has to get this shout out. She is my rock. If it wasn’t for her pushing me and supporting me then i wouldn’t be in the position I’m in today. She is not only guiding me on the right direction, but being my business partner is help guide my business in the right direction. She is Not So Cliché and I’ll be forever grateful for her. Also would like to thank and shout out my mentor Tanesha Windom. She is the founder of My Sisters Keeper in Highland Park,Mi, where she mentors young girls and shape them to be amazing young adults and she also supports me and help me anything business or personal wise. She has been my mentor since i was 13 and she has help mold me into the person i am. I’m very grateful for the two superhero women in my life.
