Meet Carlos Coleman | Photographer and owner of Risky Business

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlos Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlos, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, it was something I always wanted to do. I just didn’t know exactly what area of business I wanted to go in. I’ve always explored different areas of business whether it was selling sneakers or just buying and selling other high commodity items. That was until I found and started pursuing photography professionally I became more aligned with my business dreams and passion I felt like I finally found my path in 2019. A few years later I had the idea to showcase my art and creative vision and others in a different way and came up with the idea to start my own business called “Risky Business” who I currently work alongside with my partners Abraham Gurrola and Zachary S.A. The process behind it is we wanted to publicize our creations and others’ creative vision like music, art, events, news and so much more.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
“Risky Business” is a multimedia business based out of Grand Rapids, MI. We platform music, art, interviews, news and more under one roof. I feel like what makes us different is we are the culture we’re working in. You often see many companies doing the same but have no actual interest in the areas they cover just do it for lucrative reasons. We are currently making moves to continue the rise of our company everyday. It definitely hasn’t been easy in the slightest, from getting the LLC all the way to just creating a logo it has been hard but nothing we haven’t been able to handle. Some of the things we learned so far is consistency. It’s the most important thing we had instilled in our heads and in the company brand itself. The one thing we want the world to know is we are coming for the top seats in due time but until then we will be pushing quality work, catering to our local following, as well as our growing online following.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I know this may sound cliché but I want to shout out myself first, the person that I was versus the person that I am today is pretty much a full 180. All the late nights and early mornings helped shape me and prepare myself for the next stage of my life and to continue to be successful and reach even high levels.

Next I’d like to shout out my long time friend who’s more like a brother Bryson F. Our business conversions since kids have always kept me going and always kept that fire alive. I appreciate it more than you know!

Next I want to give a huge shoutout to another long time friend who is also like a brother Abraham G. I appreciate and thank you for having such a creative mind. You pushed me in ways creatively I didn’t think I could make it to and I’m very thankful for that.

Last but not least I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my brother Tyrone R. for just taking a chance on me and helping jump start my career. A simple 20 minute set changed the trajectory of my life in the business space and I’m forever grateful.
