We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrissy Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chrissy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Growing up , I was the daughter and granddaughter of immigrant parents and grandparents that really fought for the “American dream”. So. As a first generation Macedonian-American , hard work and owning a business was always engrained in me . My grandfather owned an auto repair shop in Birmigham & my parents owned a bakery in the downriver area . I spent many early mornings pouring coffee for customers and glazing donuts on weekends . I loved seeing people smile , I loved earning my own money. So, from an early age, I always knew that I wanted to run my own business , whatever it may be. Fast forward to today , we have built Primp to be one of the most booked our bridal teams in the area. Although it’s not from our bakery , I still find myself pouring my clients coffee in the morning and It still makes me smile

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started off in the industry in 2000 as a receptionist at a local salon . From there , I always knew that making people feel beautiful was what I was destined to do . With an eye for details , I easily loved putting together an entire look from the fashion to all the main components of the glam . After building a career and a clientele , I decided that being a mom to my beautiful kids was something that was important to me , but not something that was going to define me . So after long consideration and realization that I was never going to fulfill my California dreams of doing make up to the stars , I decided that starting a glam squad of my own for a different kind of star should be born. In 2011 , Primp Beauty Concierge was born . Here, the star of my show was my bride and her entourage . Working with other stylists from my past was how I was able to start slowly forming a team and it has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. We’ve won over 10 awards from THE KNOT and have had numerous publications and we aren’t stopping there . If there’s any advice I can give to anyone starting out , it’s to always be innovative . Don’t do what everyone else is doing . Be the hardest worker in the room and always stay humble . You might start a trend !

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Don’t get me wrong , I love the city of Detroit but I’d have to pick my hometown of Plymouth !

I’d treat my bestie to a spray tan and a blowout at my beauty bar, along w/ a crawl of all the amazing restaurants our town has to offer . As a foodie myself , I must admit that downtown Plymouth has some of the best food and drinks . Our favorite Hidden gem is for sure The Ebenezer and not everyone knows this , but they have exquisite small plates too !

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I couldn’t be where I’m at today without the love and support of my family and my team . It surely takes a village to do great things and I’m surrounded by the best
