Meet Demargeo White | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Demargeo White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Demargeo, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In the beginning it was me wanting to make a name for myself. I felt like I had enough talent to go out and do my own thing so in 2017 I quit my job and jumped on the entrepreneur wagon. By 2019 I had pivot from food to desserts and that’s when it all became clear. Creating generational wealth to pass down to our children.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I feel what sets us apart from everyone else is our creativity when offer flavors you won’t find anywhere else in town, our consistency, making sure we’re making our weekly deliveries givng our customers easy access to our products on a weekly basis and having a strong relationship within the community. You really can’t have a successful business if you’re not connecting with the people that’s supporting you.
What makes me most proud about my journey is that our children get to see my dream unfold right before their very eyes. Showing them “you too can make this happen you just have to be willing to put forth the effort.” Plus knowing the fact I’m inspiring other people to chase their dreams really makes my heart smile..
Was it easy? Heck no! I honestly didn’t know a thing about business in the beginning. All I knew was that I had a vision and I was determined to make it come true regardless of what I had to do I was ready for it. A few challenges I had to over come in the beginning was finding my market. Ok, I found my market how am I going to get my product out there? I started driving around with a cooler in the trunkof my car selling cheesecake slices. Another challenge for was going from baking at home to baking in a commercial kitchen. So I had learn how to budget my money for Ingredients & paying rent because I was no longer baking at home.
A few thing I’ve learned early on was definitely ask for help because if you don’t know what you’re doing chances are you might end up quitting. Hitting walls can def5 be very discouraging in the beginning that’s why I say it’s important to find the help you need so you can continue to strive.
I want the world to know that as long as you believe in yourself it doesn’t make what nobody else thinks. If you can see you vision and no one else I’m here to tell you that’s all you need. Believe in yourself, set a plan and execute.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in the city to check is definitely Twine Urban Winery, the wine selection in top shelf, the food is amazing and the wine slushies are out this world. The Xperience is a vibe all by itself high energy good place to go when you want to let loose a little bit. Dabney & Co cocktail lounge is my go to spot when I just want to relax and enjoy some good company.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many organizations that helped me get to where I am today. Amazing organizations like Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Southwest Michigan First, B.E.T.A (Black Entrepreneur Training Academy, SCORE, Can-Do Kitchen KNAC (Kalamazoo NonProfit Advocacy Coalition, Men of Purpose & WSI Recruitment & Staffing.
I’ve also read/listened to a few books along the way like Profit First by Mike Michalowicz, The Power of Broke by Daymond John, Rich Dad Poor by Robert Kiyosaki, The E-Myth Revisted by Michael E. Gerber, & 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. These books really helped me channel my inner entrepreneur and gave my clarity along my journey.
