Meet Dr. Pam Perry | Publicist and Publisher of Speakers Magazine

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Pam Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Pam, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
You know, after spending more than three decades in this business, there’s one thing I always like to share: PR is not just about getting your name out there. It’s about storytelling. People often think we’re just spin doctors or that we simply send out press releases all day. But it’s so much deeper than that. Our job is to find the heart of the story and communicate it in a way that resonates with the intended audience. We’re more than just messengers; we’re storytellers. And in the age of information overload, telling a compelling, authentic story is more crucial than ever. Just as I learned in journalism, it’s all about who, what, when, where, why, and how. The core principles remain the same, only the methods of delivery evolve. And if there’s anything my roots in Detroit taught me, it’s the value of resilience and adaptability, which are essential in the ever-changing landscape of public relations.
What should our readers know about your business?
Certainly. My business is built on a foundation of passion for storytelling and a deep-rooted belief in the power of authentic communication. What sets us apart is our commitment to go beyond just promoting a brand. We aim to capture its essence, its heartbeat. It’s about crafting narratives that resonate, that make people feel connected.
I am incredibly proud of the recent success of our magazine. It’s a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team. The magazine has become a platform where we amplify voices that need to be heard, where stories are told with authenticity and depth. And the response has been overwhelming. It’s an affirmation that people are yearning for genuine stories, for real connections.
The Speak Sell Shine event we just held at the National Press Club was nothing short of phenomenal. It was an embodiment of our vision – bringing together brilliant minds to share, inspire, and uplift. The energy in that room was palpable! It’s events like these that remind me why we do what we do. To create spaces where ideas flow, collaborations are forged, and dreams are ignited.
Getting to where I am business-wise wasn’t a walk in the park. The path was riddled with challenges, from navigating the dynamic world of PR to adapting to the digital age. But every challenge was a lesson in disguise. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of staying true to one’s core values and vision, even in the face of adversity. Resilience, adaptability, and unwavering belief in one’s mission are keys to success in this industry.
I want the world to know that our brand is more than just a PR firm. It’s a movement. A movement that champions genuine storytelling, that believes in the transformative power of authentic communication. Our story is one of passion, perseverance, and the unwavering belief in the potential of every voice waiting to be heard.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Absolutely! Detroit has so much to offer, and I’d want to give my best friend a taste of everything that makes this city so special.
Day 1:
Morning: Start the day with a visit to the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. It’s a place close to my heart, and it offers an in-depth look at the rich history and culture of African Americans.
Afternoon: After that, we’d head over to the Motown Museum. No trip to Detroit is complete without delving into its iconic music history!
Evening: For dinner, we’d dig into some mouth-watering soul food at Fusion Flare.
Day 2:
Morning: Breakfast at a cozy local café.
Afternoon: Spend the day downtown, shopping and exploring. Detroit’s downtown area has seen so much revitalization, and the vibe is just electric.
Evening: Head to an Italian eatery. There’s nothing like a plate of fresh pasta and a glass of wine to wind down the day.
Day 3:
Morning: Start with brunch at a trendy spot.
Afternoon: A day at Barnes & Noble. We’d hang out at the Starbucks inside, sipping on our favorite drinks while browsing through books and magazines. It’s a simple pleasure but one I deeply cherish.
Evening: Mexican dinner! We’d indulge in some spicy tacos and refreshing margaritas.
Day 4:
Morning: Grab coffee at a local roastery – a Black owned one on the LIvernois Avenue of Fashion.
Afternoon: Explore some of Detroit’s iconic art and murals. The street art scene here is incredible.
Evening: Attend a concert. Detroit’s music scene is diverse, and there’s always something happening!
Day 5:
Day trip: Head to one of the nearby natural attractions or parks for a bit of relaxation and fresh air, maybe Belle Isle.
Day 6:
Morning: Brunch at another local favorite.
Afternoon: Explore some local boutiques and maybe even catch a matinee show.
Evening: Head to a basketball game! Detroit’s sports scene is vibrant, and there’s nothing like the energy in the arena.
Day 7:
Morning: Lazy breakfast at home.
Afternoon: A final stroll through some of my favorite neighborhoods, soaking in the ambiance and maybe even stopping at a few historical spots.
Evening: Farewell dinner at another soul food gem, reminiscing over the week’s adventures.
Detroit is a city of history, culture, music, and passion. From its roots in Motown to its burgeoning arts scene and sporting spirit, there’s something for everyone. And through it all, the heart and resilience of the city shine through. I’d want my best friend to leave with a piece of that Detroit magic in their heart
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh, absolutely. First and foremost, I have to give a huge shoutout to my rock, my husband, Marc Perry. He’s not just my partner in life, but he’s been my mentor and my biggest supporter throughout this journey. You know, he’s always believed in me and all my seemingly wild ideas. I often say that behind every vision, there’s someone who believes in it just as fiercely, and for me, that’s Marc. We’ve always been a team. Even when we were just dating, we ran BART – Black in Advertising Radio and TV – together back in the mid-1990s. That collaboration was just the beginning. Having someone by your side who sees the potential in every dream you conjure up, who lifts you up during the lows and celebrates with you during the highs, is a blessing. I owe so much of my success, resilience, and drive to Marc. He’s an integral part of my story and I am endlessly grateful for him.
