We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittny Hardrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittny, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I used to NOT have a work life balance. Prior to having my son I would work two jobs. I would work retail on the side. Once I had my son I still worked two jobs (I was doing hair, plus working retail). I remember one time around the Christmas holiday , I think my son was about 4 years old. He wanted to go see Santa at the mall I was working at. I remember I was supposed to be off from that job at about noon, and I had to be at the salon by 4, but because I was an assistant manager I had to stay over until 2 and to see Santa was over around 3. We made it to see him but it was that day I quit my retail business and started really pouring into my business. I didn’t want to miss out on things like taking my son to see Santa because of a job.

Fast forward to the pandemic, it helped me become very familiar with the word NO. I realized that people like for us beauty professionals to be “on call” and that’s not the case. Us not working for those 3 1/2 months made me realize that it is OK to have balance and tell clients No. I rearrange me schedule all the time for my sons sake, because it is important to him and me that I am at almost all of his activities.

Another big part of balance is taking time for self car,e, spending time with your partner, friends, and family. That’s time you can not get back.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and hairstylist of NicoleB Beauty Studio where I specialize in healthy haircare. I get asked a lot what sets me apart from others and I always try and find this long drawn out answer, but…it isn’t one. Its pretty simple. I am my authentic self, I include my personality into my Professionalism. I got to where I am with consistency and Jesus lol. For real though you HAVE TO BE CONSISTENT. Nothing is overnight and I worked hard (still do) to get to where I am now. I had to have patience as well, it gets uncomfortable, exhausting and it was times I wanted to throw in the towel. I knew/know the goals I want to meet so I am not stopping until I get there. I overcame the challenges with prayer, and with the mindset of its just a road block not the end of the road.
I want to say the most valuable lesson Ive learned is everybody don’t want to see you win, so when business gets rough don’t go running around boo hoo crying to people because that’s what they want to happen. People loveee failure. Also, you are the only person that can see your vision, so don’t expect anybody to see it bigger than you.
I want people to know that my story was writing when I was a little girl. I am doing everything little Brittny Dreamed of.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people that pour into me honestly its hard to just name one or two or even three! I would like to thank my parents though for all that they’ve done throughout this journey. From keeping my son on the late nights I have had to work, the extra Money they’ve given me when times got hard. But I have so so so many people that I’m so thankful for helping me, giving me encouraging words, being a listening ear…etc.
