Meet Jannie Teitelbaum | Managing Partner Food Company

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jannie Teitelbaum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jannie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’ve always been a workaholic. In each business I’ve had I’ve spent endless hours in my work and let some activities and relationships fall by the wayside. Now that I’m a bit older I realize that I’ve been missing out. I’m still working a lot and find fulfillment in the daily grind but I’m taking more time for myself and what makes me happy. I try to meet a friend for coffee or dinner at least once per week. I’m exercising more. I’m spending more quality time with my husband and children. Putting effort into “your life” is important for ones overall well being. My work-life balance isn’t only important to me, it has an effect on the people around me.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Great Lakes Pot Pies manufacturers and sells several varieties of frozen pot pies. What sets us apart from other companies is our high quality food and attention to customer service. We have achieved our success through our retail store, social media and local advertising which has brought us more traffic in our store. Through social media we have also gained nationwide notoriety and now ship across the country. It was absolutely not easy to get to where we are but now that we’re in many grocery stores and shipping across the country, it was worth the effort. It was hard overcoming the challenges but I kept my head down and kept going even when things were uncomfortable. A good lesson that I learned was to keep putting the effort in even if you aren’t sure it’s worth it. It all adds up and you can get to where you want to be. I want people to know that my brand stands for good, convenient, quality food. We’re proud of the product that we put out.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the suburbs of Detroit. I’ve lived here since 2009. The city has changed quite a bit even since I’ve been here. It’s beautiful here with wooded areas and lots of lakes. Some of the Detroit sights I would take a friend to are the Detroit Institute of Arts and then continue down Woodward Avenue to eat at one of the many great restaurants. There’s also the Motown Museum, Campus Martius Park and a stroll down the Detroit River at Riverwalk. In the suburbs there’s the quaint town of Birmingham with many nice shops and restaurants. There’s also the Eastern Market area with good food and vendors selling things from jewelry to fresh produce.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It may sound cliche, but without the support of my family I could not have achieved where my company is now. They put up with my crazy schedule, workers and storage space at our home. I also want to mention that even though my workers are paid, their efforts are a large part of the reason my company continues to soar. I’m in a few network groups with other business owners and we support each others businesses.
