Meet Jake Kitley | Musician – Content Creator – Video Editor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Kitley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always been drawn to music. Honestly it wasn’t even really a conscious choice. It was something inborn within me. Fellow artists will resonate with that statement. It’s not really something we choose to do. We have to create.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I release music through my solo project, “Morel Compass”. Being an independent artist gives me the freedom to explore so the songs will always sound like me but I’m going to be genre hopping. Anything from Rock, Jazz, Blues, Fusion… whatever sounds good. I don’t get too hung up on labels. I’m a multi instrumentalist which is great because I can play all of the instruments needed for me to record the songs I write. Truth be told playing any instrument is a lot of fun and a gift but I like playing bass guitar the most. Low frequencies just sound the best to me. I enjoy composing solo bass pieces and I recently put out a solo bass ep called, “HGH Lake”. I had guidance through my TikTok followers on what should be the theme of the album. I thoroughly enjoyed their input.
I’ve stated before in other interviews it’s not easy to make a lot of money in music. Especially through streaming. If you have a local artist you really enjoy I would encourage you to purchase their merch if you can and go see them live. It means a lot to us that people enjoy our songs. Even if you can’t get the merch just let them know you like their music. Many times I had considered giving up in music and someone reached out with words of encouragement and it kind of put wind back in my sails. It’s free to be kind.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Stockbridge, MI. There are great food options in and near our small town. Big Chucks pizza and bacon ranch sticks are amazing. The Bowling Alley has amazing burgers. Medinas has excellent Mexican food. As for excitement I’d imagine we’d go look at the blinking light for a while. Possibly check out where the new Tractor Supply is being built if we had the time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I want to thank God for giving me a creative mind to pursue all of these endeavors. Then I would like to thank my family for putting up with me for all of these years. Then I would really like to thank all of my TikTok followers who encourage me to continue making music and making videos. Anyone that tells you they that they are self made are misled in my opinion.
