Meet David Day | CEO/Founder/Dishwasher

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was an overweight truck driver and before that I was a Cajun Chef at my father’s restaurant. I didn’t know how to eat healthy on account of that, I only knew how to eat “good.” We made fried chicken, catfish, burgers, etouffee; you name it, we served it and served it well. After a little bit of time working with family, I realized why it was advised against, and went out on my own and got my CDL. Started driving the roadways of America. I was eating everything that caught my attentions; I caught rolls in my mouth and ate at the Heart Attack Grill, on top of gas station pizza for breakfast. Needless to say, it got away from me, one day I was driving down I80 in Wyoming and felt a pang in my arm/chest area.
I pulled off to the side of the road and then I woke up.
Realizing something had to change, I threw out all my candy bars in the freezer and all my chips in the pantry (trucks have all these things) and start figuring out a new way to live and eat.
My first step was getting 2 items at Taco Bell instead of 3. Then, I was adding 5 fruits to my daily food intake. Eventually losing about 170lbs, just by lowering how much food I was eating but never compromising on taste.
When I got out of the truck and starting living life day to day instead of trip to trip, I fell back into the food hole. Drive throughs, pizza delivery, going to bars all the standard unhealthy stuff.
So, I said to myself “If there was a healthy place to eat, that was as easy as going out to eat, I bet I would eat there 5 days a week”
From that thought, Quick Eats Meal Prep was born.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We have learned that serving people is a labor of love. I feel like such a dork when I talk to customers, I’m excited and want to serve them. When we opened, it was a means to an end and I was hopefully going to be in the background managing everything but we found quickly that if I wanted to rewards I was seeking, I needed to be working with people, feeling the gratitude helping everyday people with their weight loss journey. We take a lot of pride in not processing our food, when we buy chicken, we cut chicken then marinade, season and cook the chicken. Our vegetables are hand selected and cut or peeled by hand.
We want our business to live up to our promise “Food that won’t kill you.” And everyday we choose to do the hard thing, over the time saving thing that would lower our quality.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Flint Crepe Company is a really cool downtown location that has incredible crepes and coffee! Totem Books is another cool and interesting place to show off our city a little bit. If I was going to show off our culinary abilities I would highly recommend The Laundry in Fenton!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ojbwa Health Store was my first location and help set the standard for our food. My father David Day Sr., gave me the tools I needed to survive in the business world.
My shout-out goes to Ms. Lisa Banks at Mott Community College, her entrepreneur class really pushed me into working for myself, she doesn’t know how helpful her lessons were in driving me forward!
