Meet Breanna Sylvia | Collage Artist & Poet

We had the good fortune of connecting with Breanna Sylvia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breanna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted and want to inspire others to create and hopefully to inspire with my art as a whole. I have already inspired some of my friends and followers to create collages and paintings. I’ve also inspired people to pick up art again and that is one of my greatest accomplishments. Nothing makes me feel better about my art than inspiring others and staying true to myself. Creating my own brand and business helps me to believe in myself as well. Promoting my art and knowing others are enjoying what I enjoy is motivating.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe my openness about my own mental health and disability sets me apart from other artists, I want to show my followers that you can create despite your challenges whether they be physical, mental, or situational. I’m proud of my ability to show myself in a raw way and my resilience. Getting to where I am now has been easy and sometimes not so easy. I have been able to create a following on my Facebook page throughout the years, but followers can come and go and it is not always easy to maintain a certain number of followers. I have overcome this challenge by continuing to promote through other businesses and friends, etc. I never give up because I am passionate about what I do. I’ve learned that there are dry times and times where your art will be popular. The most important lesson I’ve learned is to not let the dry times get you down but rather to motivate you to try again.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Port Huron, Michigan and my favorite places to go and find inspiration are my own home, Everything Classic Antiques and More, The Raven Cafe, and Teds Coney Island. I love simple mom and pop restaurant meals. I know it’s not the most fancy of places to go but Teds Coney Island is my favorite local restaurant. I love enjoying a chocolate milkshake and a good cheeseburger or grilled chicken salad. I think finding enjoyment and inspiration through visiting small businesses and small local shops is one of the greatest joys as an artist and as a friend. I find a lot of enjoyment taking my like-minded friends to local thrift stores, like Goodwill and St Vincent dePaul in Marysville. Finding little treasures is inspiring to me and I know my friends would enjoy that as well. Another place I would love to take my friend is to Redford Theatre in Detroit. Redford Theatre is my favorite theatre in Michigan and I love that they show old films for us to see in modern times.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner Daniel Melbourne, my mom, and all of my friends are my muses and inspirations. They encourage me daily to continue my art endeavors and help me to promote my brand.
