We had the good fortune of connecting with AMI- LA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi AMI-, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being a person who wants to succeed in life provides a true sense of accomplishment when it’s done independently. My thought process behind starting my own business was out of faith and pure determination, and from that point forward, I never looked back.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I want the world to know that being different and being a creative is not easy; it takes sheer gumption, faith, and determination to keep going when others may not support you or your craft.

I have endured many challenges in life, in my music career, and my family. When my father passed, my life changed dramatically. God and gospel music helped me heal, it kept me inspired, and ultimately, it set me on a path toward my God-given purpose to encourage others in the midst of the storm through song.

You have to know with God all things are possible and all things are perfect in Him. I owe my success to the Lord. I’ve learned to celebrate every single win; whether big or small, I celebrate it. I’m thankful for those who have supported me along the way. I’m grateful for opportunities to have worked with exceptional talent, to have performed on legendary stages such as Hart Plaza in the city of Detroit, and to have been blessed to be selected for various music accelerator programs within the city.

I want people to know I’m pushing for something bigger than me. To be a change agent, to be a witness of the gospel, and to spread the good news.

God has given me a unique gift, and a unique style. My LA-FAM and my tribe know that you’re loved. I want people to know always to keep pursuing their dreams, and it’s always possible to achieve them, no matter your age or situation. Things can change in an instant. Continue to have faith and continue to trust Jesus. He will make a way out of no way for you. Just keep going—my constant reminder.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I proudly call Detroit the Motor City, my home, and I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming friends from all over to experience it.

Our adventure would begin with a visit to a Detroit classic, Coney Island, to taste their famous coneys. The next day, we’ll explore downtown Detroit, taking in the city’s beauty with a stroll along the Detroit Riverfront and immersing ourselves in art and culture at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Dining options in Greektown to relax and enjoy our time, while in the evening, we will visit an open mic event; as we move on, we’ll continue our exploration of Detroit’s artistic side, discovering the art alleys and taking in the city’s beautiful street murals. At the end of the week, we will sip tea in Campus Martius Park. I’m a tea person, and I enjoy this park, and so will my friends!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes! I want to shoutout my family (siblings), my mother, and my husband. If it wasn’t for their support and their continued prayers, I honestly don’t know where I would be, so each day, I’m grateful. Love you all!
