Perspectives on work life balance

The Coronavirus has given many us an opportunity to pause and think about life, our purpose, and even the right work life balance. What’s your perspective and has it changed over time?

It will sound very boring but ‘consistency’. I sell year round and that means attending a great deal of markets and shows. They are not all winners. Some are break-even or busts but I just brush those off and immediately move to the next one. I just don’t call it quits. I have had a number of events that produced lack-luster results for the bulk of the day, and then I get a large sale at the end of the day right when it’s time to pack up. I pay attention to my year-over-year performance and there were plenty of years where growth was slow but eventually, after several years, I noticed that I was not working as hard as I used to in order to acquire customers. Previous buyers were returning for repeat orders because they had a positive experience. My business literally started to produce ‘dividends’. Talk to anyone who has made money in the stock market and they will tell you that dividends grow when you consistently feed and maintain your investment. Read more>>

Our success, at its core, comes down to our deep commitment to our brides and our community. The main factor behind Love Eternals success, is simply prayer. Prayer works! Of course everything isn’t easy going into and sustaining this business, but knowing you have help and can get help at any time is comforting. Also support goes a long way as well. Has Love Eternal always had support? No, it hasn’t unfortunately. However when Love Eternal does have support, the difference is definitely shown. Read more>>

I believe having a good support system is a very important factor. I would not be where I am today without my husband. He has supported me through my toughest times and always pushed me to get out of my comfort zone. I have felt ‘Imposture Syndrome’ multiple times and in in order for me to get through it, I had to sit down and focus on my brand and what that really meant to me. I wanted to be transparent, and show the realness of being a stay at home parent running a photography business. A lot of the times my business needs to be put on hold so I can be present for my family. My photography brand has been through so much. If you follow me on my socials, you can see that I struggle with consistency. I try to use different platforms to express myself and my creativity. Read more>>

Community and keeping it local. I am as involved in the community as I can be both professionally and personally. Silver, Slag & Stone does all local art shows, donates to charity, and sells in local woman owned business. Our children participate in local activities and community events. I think the success of our brand is that we do all aspects of it together as a family and are relatable. I do my best to keep it real always. The jewelry may be shiny and perfect but the process and steps along the way sure aren’t. So many things are glamorized on social media and I think it’s important to show both sides of the stone so to speak. Read more>>

I truly believe my success has came from having great communication with my clients. Being in the wedding industry, 95% of my clients have never been married and some have had very little experience with weddings. I am always there to answer any questions they have at any point in the process and also to give helpful tips and insight that they might not have access to. Read more>>

Honest and positive features. I only post from places that I had a great experience at and keep negativity off of my page. If I don’t have a good experience I simply don’t post about it. I like to promote new businesses focusing on local restaurants. I also feature places I find along my travels. Read more>>

The most important factor behind our success is the way we treat vendors, venues, and our clients. Although treating your clients with respect and kindness seems to be a given for anyone in our industry, it is shocking how many vendors do not translate those same actions towards staff at venues and other vendors. Early on in business, I gained a reputation for being easy to work with and respectful of the jobs the other vendors were trying to do. As I tell new vendors, I’m here to make your job easier – not to tell you how to do it. I’m not a photographer, I don’t know how to do that job. However I can help make the transitions during the day easier for a photographer – I can help make the timeline run more smoothly – because that is where my expertise comes to play. In the end, I know that this attitude has resulted in much more success for the business, evident by the number of leads we get from venues and other vendors. Read more>>

I would say that the most important factor behind my success is the support I had from my family, friends, and mentors. Even when I felt like I was moving slowly or going nowhere, there were people to lift me up and motivate me to continue going. I had amazing mentors who helped me with forming great connections, solving problems I never thought of encountering, and pushed me every day to do my best work. Without them, my business would not be where it is today. Read more>>
