We had the good fortune of connecting with Davy Jonesz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Davy, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Angels fly because they take things lightly.” This is one of my favorite quotes of all time. As an artist I’ve always carried the burden of perfectionism. As I’ve aged with my craft I also began to shift perspective. No longer overcompensating for the goals I want to reach or the projects that I desire to finish. This shift allowed me to get back to a more authentic, genuine version of myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s been a long journey finding my niche in the art and music world. I’m most excited about the upcoming art showcases. These exhibitions are reflective of the Bauhaus movement in Germany. I use this reference to have a more radical approach exhibiting art and music. I took my time curating an approach and because of that many have become fascinated. Although, the challenges come in when transitioning from artist to project planner. I want people to recognize the attention to detail. As well as the philosophy that I use to encompass my talents for the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So if we’re going out on the town in Kalamazoo, first place to visit is my favorite food place: Fourth Coast. This is one of the best coffee and dine-in places around town! Afterward we may take a stroll through the downtown area to experience the lights of Bronson park and some of the local shops. A favorite of  mine is Kalamazoo Pickers. Lastly, we can end our night at Dabney and Co. for great drinks and a good time!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shout out to my family and community. Because of their support, I have been shown a multitude of advice and praise for that which I have accomplished. I also would like to thank  my fraternity. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. The brotherhood has shown ample amounts of support as well as a great network of resources!
