We had the good fortune of connecting with Caleb Silvers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caleb, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
You have to go to film school to make it somewhere. I am proof that you do not have to go to school for this career. Nobody ever asks for school credits. It’s all about the experience, connections, and dedication. Don’t be afraid to reach out and make connections. Join film groups on social media. Go to local film events. I came from the small town of Owosso, Michigan and still made it somewhere. I started out by acting in student films and shorts. I had to drive a decent distance to most auditions and film locations. After gaining experience, I got bigger roles and never stopped from there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been acting professionally on and off for about 12 years. I’ve been directing for just a few years. I will always say that my dedication and hard work sets me apart from others. I’m most proud of where I started and where I am now. I’ve been in over 60 projects and counting and I have won a few awards now. I got to where I am at because I pushed for it even when others doubted me. I don’t believe it will ever be easy. This is a competitive industry and it’s up to me to make it. I overcame my challenges by working harder than anyone else and through prayer. I learned that you can’t listen to the haters and never give up. I want the world to know that I started from scratch and had a dream. If you fight for your dream hard enough, it will come true.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my bestfriend to Downtown Detroit. My favorite city in Michigan. Cruise down Woodward Ave in my 79′ Cadillac Eldorado. Hangout on Belle Isle. Get a bite to eat at Texas de Brazil. Zip down the business strip on electric scooters. Go on the river walk. Attend a Detroit sports event. Maybe even hit up Greektown. There’s a lot of interesting people and places in 313.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give recognition to Three Fires Artwork by Neezhō-Nimikeekway, which creates indigenous artwork. The time and effort put into each piece is remarkable. This artist makes custom and affordable pieces. I myself have received many pieces and I am more than satisfied. Without the help of Three Fires Artwork, I wouldn’t have the regalia to celebrate and honor our veterans.
