Meet KillA CAD | Rapper/Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with KillA CAD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KillA, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Before heading to college I knew I wanted to be more established as an artist with a clear vision by the time I graduated. With that in mind, I grew more patient with my progress. I knew and still know that everyday I will experience something in some way that will help me navigate through this path that I’m on.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a rapper and graphic designer, my goal is to reestablish authentic entertainment in Rap and R&B through the form of album and single rollouts. While it is possible that a good enough song can help an artist reach higher levels of success, expanding a song or an album into various forms of media and tangible items that reflect the artist as well as their music will increase engagement, lead to a stronger fan base and a longer lasting career. I curated my own album rollout for my upcoming project titled “OBLiviOU2” (Oblivious 2), this past August. This rollout consists of singles from the album, a collection of teaser videos available on youtube titled “TEA2ER TUE2DAY”, and merchandise. I focused on integrating elements that were unique to this album to create various tangibles. With my website officially up and running I am working on producing physical copies of sweaters and sweatpants, wristbands, posters, and stickers so that may be photographed and added to the site. As mentioned the website I have made includes my music, merch, bio, footage of live performances and upcoming events, and will be home to music videos I have planned for “OBLiviOU2”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Growing up I have always been a huge fan of Michigan high school athletics, mainly basketball and football. Now that I am home I’m excited to see the many athletes with bright futures around the state. Along with this, the ever growing “underground” music and art scene is something I take a lot of pride in. There are many organizations such as J.O.D. (Jewels of Detroit), Chroma Detroit, Define Detroit, the Unspoken Network, Culture Creators, etc. who hold many amazing events throughout each month.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a few people who deserve a lot of recognition for their talents who have helped me in my life and career so far.
Pastor Harold Cadwell Jr. (Transformation Christian Church):
I credit much of my growth to my pastor and my church. While he is my father, I respect him as my pastor. Him and his ministers are intelligent and passionate about healing and growing both believers and non believers of God. The direction I have taken with my music has been heavily inspired by the ministry of TCC. For those able I would love for you to join us Sundays at 10:30 located at 5439 W Warren, Detroit, Michigan.
ReidRZL:
The music I have released the past year would not be possible without ReidRZL. He was the engineer for my recent album “OBLiviOUS 2” and the “TEA2ER TUE2DAY” series I released on SoundCloud and YouTube. He is continuing to make phenomenal music as he grows in new places.
Tr3$ebiv:
Tr3$ebiv is an amazing artist who makes the perfect music for athletes. His music is motivational and has a lot of variety. Be on the look out for his “Delegated” clothing line that continues to grow.
Chris Powerz:
On December 12th, Chris Powerz will be releasing his next album “Tiny Things Look Big” which is highly anticipated. As someone who was a part of the process of this album, I will say that this one is sure to turn some heads.
