We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Burl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being a creative has made it tough to work a 9-5. It’s amazing that I have been able to do so for as long as I have. There’s always an idea you want to get out. Lots of great ideas have come to mind just while being on the clock. If being a business owner could help me get one thing, I would say that it is time. I want as much time as I can have to be creative and build and break things until I’m truly satisfied. It’s still early into this road on entrepreneurship, but I would say my main thought so far is to take back control of my time.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The hardest thing about entrepreneurship is getting started. You may feel that you don’t have all of the experience or the contacts and connections for immediate growth. It’s been a journey so far and truth be told, it still feels like the beginning even though I started this company almost 4 years ago now. Shooting my first wedding with no experience as a second shooter was quite the rush in 2021 but to get experience in this field of photography, you just have to go for it. One of the biggest lessons I learned is to go for it. That’s the only way to grow. You can be your biggest champion or your own villain. Take risks. That’s what entrepreneurship is. As a creative I want people to see art in my photography. I want to encourage people to have fun in their expression as I stand behind the lens and capture moments that they can be impressed by. It’s awesome when you can make people feel good. What I believe will set me apart from others is my communication background. Listening and asking questions is one thing I am great at. I want my clients to get an experience whenever they shoot with me. In the future I want families to have pictures of loved ones from many years back and even if they don’t know who’s in the image they still say ”thats a nice picture and we should keep it.” I want these images to exist with families long after they were taken.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well Im a big Detroit sports fan. Depending on the time of year, a sporting event is almost a must for an out of town week stay. Downtown Detroit is an experience. So many bars and food options exist. I would say my favorite restaurant is Vicentes which is a cuban restaurant I’ve enjoyed now for years. Checkers bar is a great bar downtown to get some good priced drinks and is not far from everything. My favorite bar right now is Wright & Company. One of my favorite restaurants period right now, is a taco spot called Taco Bros in Wyandotte downriver. Definitely going there. People are usually impressed by how close we are to Canada so I always recommend them bringing a passport so we can jump over there for a few hours. Im a big foodie and this could easily be the longest category but I’m going to stop myself after this. Bobs Pizza Palace on 7 mile and Evergreen can always have my money. For the people who come to town and want to know whats so good about Detroit Pizza, just take them there. Mic drop.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Id like to give shout outs to my Wife Amikka Burl , Mother Sabrina Wingo, and Grandmother Essie. All three entrepreneurs doing what they love and servicing people in different fields. My Grandmother recently celebrated 28 years in business with her herb shop “Friend in Hand”. Back in the 90’s as a boy, I have fond memories of making sales pitches and actually making sales while still being too small to reach the counter the cash register sat on. These years where I spent my summer vacations away from Detroit in Richmond Virginia was where I witnessed my first example of an entrepreneur’s beginning. My Mother left corporate America after taking over a business in Winston Salem almost 8 year ago. She named her restaurant “Taste of the Triad” and she’s doing really well in the community there. They serve soul food in the restaurant and also cater for schools in the area. My Wife who’s accolades are too many to list, has been on national television a few times now and is growing a business which she coined LA-Ink. She specializes in public speaking as well as communication and commands any room well . Im excited to watch her continue to grow and she’s my toughest critic so it’s good to have her. We hold each other accountable and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
