Meet Eric Andrews | Owner of Brick & Mortar | Detroit | Detroit’s Realtor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Andrews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, do you have a budget? how do you think about personal finances?
Absolutely. If you don’t have a budget then you’re putting your future at risk. It’s easy to mistake cashflow (especially if you work in a cash business) for your actual profit. I believe you should know what your monthly allotment is… and you should create a budget around that, that includes saving, and investing. Even if you live paycheck to paycheck I’d likely choose a lifestyle change to be able to create some savings within my budget if I couldn’t find a way to increase profits otherwise.
My lifestyle decisions are completely predicated upon my finances and not the other way around. I think people forget that luxuries are just that, by definition items you can live with out.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I spend a lot of time making connections, and creating strategies for first time home buyer’s/sellers and novice -or- first time real estate investors. I get a lot of joy out of helping people get started on their journey. Real estate can get messy and, can be a rollercoaster ride, scarring those who experienced this during their first rodeo.
We want people to have a good experience and continue to buy and reap the benefit of owning real estate. We talk about different strategies on Brick & Mortar Detroit Podcast it’s a good watch on YouTube or Spotify and delivers perspectives from many different real estate professionals for free.
The challenges are different in every deal but you figure out usually a way to circumvent issues when they occur. Having a good Title company on your side is key.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a simple guy. If a friend was in town I’d probably just make it a day. Maybe start out having brunch at say, Hudson Cafe or maybe late morning at Avalon. Catch a day game at Comerica Park (if it’s summer/fall), Snack there. Head to lunch/dinner maybe at La Lanterna, have some drinks and walk around the city. Maybe shop, barhop, or a maybe a little both. Find some live music, art, or something of the sort somewhere and just vibe.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The real MVP has been my wife. I have much to attribute to my mother, father, and my sister, but my wife is right there with me she lives my day to day and feels the impact of everything that happens in my life. Whether it’s good or bad. She trusts me to make the right decisions, and reminds me of my keen ability to do so when I’m in a place of doubt.
Supportive relationships are what every entrepreneur needs. I can’t imagine trying to weather each storm with a person who panics, or creates self doubt or other issues. The truth is she always reminds me of how capable I am. Truth is I’ve handled every tough thing that has come my way. That’s just life, things come and they go. On to the next…
