Meet Sammie Terbrack | Nutritionist & Birth Doula

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sammie Terbrack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sammie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I struggle with using the word “balance” because most people hear it and assume it means giving equally to work/life/family etc.. but really that’s not true. There are seasons of life where your work will need to take a front seat in your life (like when you are first starting up). There are other times when your family will need to (like when you just give birth to a baby & have to take care of this tiny living creature.. hello motherhood!). That’s true balance. It’s knowing WHEN you need to give more to 1 area and HOW to pull from the others that still allows you to show up & be successful. This is something that became very apparent when I became a mom and an areas I’m constantly growing in.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always wanted to be a mom – I didn’t know what I wanted to do for work but I KNEW I wanted to be a mom and I wanted to be GREAT at it. The mom that showed up, was active with her kids, went above & beyond… that’s what I wanted most.
Fast forward 20 years later and I did it! I became a MOM 🙂 and guess what – I didn’t feel GREAT at all. I didn’t even feel mediocre.
I was exhausted, I was in pain, I felt like my body was broken. Yet when I went to my doctor at 6 weeks so they could help me they told me I was “cleared”. That I should resume my life per usual & just expect to feel how I’m currently feeling… cuz that’s mom-life.
I left that appointment feeling absolutely defeated…
How could I possibly be a great mom if I feel so awful all the time? How could I take care of this precious human if I barely have enough energy to get through the day? When will my body not feel so weak & achy? How do moms do this?
I tried asking other moms, but they were just as miserable as me. I tried pushing through & ignoring it… that backfired. Id scroll online & try to find SOMETHING, anything that could help.
I finally found a functional practitioner and it is the first time in my life I felt fully heard & supported in my health. I was able to ask ALL the questions & more importantly I really felt listened to when it came to what was important to me! My practitioners made sure the plan was aligned with MY LIFE – versus just throwing medication or a template at me. As a new mom, I cannot express the impact this had on me & how much relief I felt…and now I feel confident & capable to show up the way my child needs me. I also no longer feel LOST in motherhood. Through out this journey I’ve found ME again and now know how to balance both motherhood & womanhood so I can thrive in both identities.
4 years, countless conversations, and a whole bunch of education later – I’ve made it my mission to be a professional resource you can come to to ask questions, truly be listened to, and be given the answers you deserve. So that as a woman, and as a mother, you no longer have to feel unheard or unsupported. You can in fact thrive in your life, feel good in your body, & be the mom you’ve always dreamed of being.
I am a Functional Nutrition Practitioner, Pre & Postnatal Exercise Specialist, and a Birth Doula. I specialize in helping women who are struggling with fertility issues, desire to experience healthy pregnancy/births, & want to heal/support their bodies properly postpartum. I will dive into YOUR BODY, YOUR SITUATION, & YOUR LIFESTYLE – and develop a plan that is design specifically FOR YOU & YOUR NEEDS. I will arm you with all you need to move into and through motherhood feeling empowered. And I’m ready when you are 🙂
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I live in Rochester Hills, MI and LOVE our downtown area. Tons of great places to eat & shop – but I love the TRAILS the most. We have tons of parks (Innovation Hills is my FAV!) and trails all around Rochester Hills to get outside & be active on. I love the Village of Rochester Hills in the summer (they have live music on Saturday nights & outdoor games set up for the whole family – it’s a blast). I’m also a concert lover and in the summer love going to Pine Knob Music Theatre to listen to great music. My son loves dinosaurs right now so I also love going to the Cranbrook Science Museum (great for all kiddos) to check out everything they have there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this to the team of practitioners I work with at Brooke Rozzie Coaching. I work with a team other women who are all dedicated to helping other women thrive. We are also all mothers on a mission to help the next generation live differently. Brooke has brought together a team of women who truly support each other and work as a unit to help provide the best possible support to every client who comes to us.
