We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what principle do you value most?
When thinking of value or principle of priority, I will have to say that integrity is what matters most to me. I am a woman of my word and I understand how my actions can impact the next person, business, or opportunity. I value my ability to operate with integrity, both personally and professionally, because it leads to continued business for my Edgy Sips brand, referrals who trust me based on past experiences with my other clients, and positions me for opportunities that are aligned with my vision. As a small business owner looking to scale and expand, it is important for me to operate and lead with integrity to set the tone for rooms I am present in.

What should our readers know about your business?
Edgy Sips is a novelty drinkware brand that aims to elevate the lifestyle journey for women of all walks of life. The unique perspective of my brand is that it is often relatable and always REAL. From the motivation to the witty, there hasn’t been a woman that couldn’t relate. I am most proud of my ability to merge my creative personality with my goal to empower women in their current walk of life and birth this brand. Edgy Sips was created in the midst of the COVID pandemic. I went from hosting annual networking brunches and designing dress apparel to being stuck in my home. I needed to create an avenue of expression for myself while also reaching the masses to empower them to keep pursuing their goals. Has it been a challenge? Yes, definitely. With the constant change in economic standing, branding/marketing strategies, and so much more, I am learning to overcome the many challenges by viewing obstacles as learning opportunities and being unafraid to network much differently than before. I’ve learned so many lessons, but the one lesson that has made the most impact in my life is you can’t do it all alone no matter how hard you try. As I am looking to scale and expand Edgy Sips, I want the world to understand that there is purpose in every sip that you take. When you invest in Edgy Sips, we are there with you every step of the way so that you are not alone in your endeavors.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend knows I love to laugh and have fun, but most of all, I love a good wine with food to pair it with. Some of the spots I would recommend are:

House of Pure Vin, Downtown Detroit — I absolutely LOVE the amazing wine selections and the vibes of the space. I met the owner, Ms. Regina Gaines, some years back when I was on the board of a wine organization I was a part of. I had the opportunity to experience her amazing spirit over time and it shows through the operation of her business. I recommend her business to everyone!

Mootz Pizzeria + Bar, Downtown Detroit — I love a good pizza and their menu is one I can indulge in everyday. The cherry on top is the bar options I can pair with my pizza!

Townhouse Detroit — This is a place I had to double back on. Their menu options are very delectable and I always receive top tier energy from everyone, even the kitchen staff behind the scenes. They enjoy challenging taste buds and I’m all for adventure!

Somerset Mall, Troy — I love shopping, so this is definitely my go-to for versatility. However, I must always start my trip there with a stop at Auntie Anne’s. I must nibble and shop and my bestie would definitely agree!

Roller skating on the River Walk — I promise you, people will somehow join in and you are definitely going to make some new connections and friendships from this simple, yet enjoyable experience.

And if you’re really down for some quick coney, we are making a stop at Grandy’s. I knew I could always enjoy a quick bite without pressure on my pockets.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is definitely a special person I would like to dedicate my shoutout to! Her name is Lucinda Williams, also known as Cindy, the Owner of Sweet Babe Treats. She often refers to me as her business mentor, but she definitely deserves the credit and recognition in my story. I am full of goals, many that may seem unattainable. Yet, she is always passionately cheering me on and assisting in finding ways to make the unattainable become achievable. She continues to push me outside of my comfort zone when the going gets tough. Being a witness of her continued dedication and growth with her business has been a primary reason I stand behind my own brand, Edgy Sips, even through the tough times of operation.
