Hi Jennifer, what do you attribute your success to?
The most significant factor behind our clothing brand’s success lies in our unwavering commitment to curating timeless and versatile clothing. By crafting pieces that not only reflect style but also foster a profound sense of empowerment, we establish a unique and meaningful connection with our customers. Jennifer Kay Design stands out in the world of fashion as more than just a brand – it’s a movement that empowers women through timeless clothing and a supportive community. What sets us apart is our commitment to fostering empowerment, not just through our designs but by creating a tight-knit community of women who uplift and support each other. Embarking on the journey of starting my own business was undoubtedly a leap into the unknown. It’s a scary endeavor, filled with uncertainties. However, it’s this very fear that fueled my determination to make a positive impact. What I am most proud of is not just the success of the brand but the lessons learned along the way.
Professionally, the path to where I am today was far from easy. Overcoming the challenges involved facing the fear of failure, financial uncertainties, and the constant need to adapt to the dynamic nature of the fashion industry. What stands out in my journey is the overwhelming support and encouragement received from people – family, friends, and even strangers who became part of the community.
The key lesson learned is that people are inherently supportive and genuinely want to see you succeed. It’s a realization that has been both humbling and empowering. Taking the leap into entrepreneurship requires courage, and what I want the world to know is that success is possible when you embrace that fear, surround yourself with a supportive community, and, most importantly, take that leap of faith.
Jennifer Kay Design is more than just clothing; it’s a testament to the strength of women supporting each other. I want the world to know that this brand is not just about fashion; it’s about empowerment, community, and the belief that success sometimes requires taking a risk.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would be torn between Ann Arbor and Detroit. There really is so much to see in this area. In Ann Arbor, we would have to hit Nicholas Arboretum. The botanical gardens and trails are a must to see. Kerrytown is great for charming shops and local farmers markets. A must-have lunch would be Zingerman’s Delicatessen. If you know you know, and if you don’t know, we need to get you there. Amazing sandwiches and unique food. And if we miss lunch because we are walking the streets of Ann Arbor, then we would definitely have dinner at The Earl Restaurant. Amazing food and an amazing environment with live music.

If we head to Detroit, we will have to explore the DIA and have breakfast at The Hudson Café. The Detroit Riverwalk is beautiful and Greektown is full of life. We could spend hours at each location. The number of restaurant choices in Detroit is endless, and the food is wonderful. But if I’m being completely honest, you need to enjoy a coney dog from Lafayette Coney Island. You cannot visit Detroit and miss this gem.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, in dedicating a shoutout for the success of Jennifer Kay Design, I want to express deep gratitude to the incredible community of women who have played an integral role in our journey. First and foremost, my family deserves immense credit for their unwavering support and encouragement. Their belief in the vision of empowering women through timeless fashion has been a driving force. Beyond that, I want to acknowledge the tight-knit community of friends who have become more like family. These women, whether close friends or supportive neighbors, consistently show up with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to uplifting each other.
