Meet Liz Fackelman | Collectibles Advisor & Certified Productive Environment Specialist & Professional Organizer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Fackelman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Trust. My clients trust me. I put my clients’ best interest first. So I get a lot of referral business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In 2012 I started Davidson Organizing in the college town of Davidson just north of Charlotte, NC. At first it was slow getting new clients, but over time with repeat business and referrals my calendar started filling up. But one of the challenges of professional organizers is that our clients often aren’t available for decluttering and organizing sessions in ways that will fill a 40 hour week. For example, I had a client who wanted to work with me from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM weekly and she lived 30 minutes from my home office. The openings before and after her appointments would be hard to fill with another organizing session. While I can work an 8 hour day, my average client gets decision fatigue and prefer 3-5 hour sessions. I’m the mother of five adult children ages 19 to 32. When they were younger, I didn’t want to work a 40 hour work week as I wanted to attend their events and be present after school. But as they went off to college, I became eager to work more hours doing what I love. The virtual and in-person appointments with clients wanting to sell their treasures are typically 30 minutes to two hours and can easily fill in the gaps in my schedule. In addition, the research and coordination I handle, can also fit into open time slots. I love helping anyone who is overwhelmed with too much stuff and needs a trusted resource to help them sell what can be sold and to confidently donate what is of too low of value to devote the time and energy to selling.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In the college town of Davidson, NC, my favorite area is Davidson College campus and the iconic downtown directly across the street. The compact campus makes for a fun walk to explore the numerous art sculptures and interesting architecture. There are numerous unique restaurants to try but my favorite is Meszito’s with authentic Mexican cuisine and excellent margaritas. On Saturday mornings, the hopping Farmers Market is the place to shop. And if by chance you play the virtual reality game Pokemon Go, you will find the town of Davidson to be an ideal place to play with its abundance of points of interest.
