Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?

Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.
I always had a love for photography and being creative. It’s been a dream of mine to be a photographer since I could remember. I actually wrote a paper on my “dream career” when I was in fifth grade. As I got older, I still loved taking photos but I hated the thought of being in a competitive, unreliable career. After eventually falling into photography as a full time job, I found that it doesn’t have to be competitive if you don’t let it. Most of my nearest friends are also photographers in town. I have always been a creative person. Even as a child, I went above and beyond in all my art & music classes. My job is not the same day to day. I can look at each client and service in a different way and come up with a solution that works best for them. When I’m able to view each person as an individual I can create a solution for their problems. This brings me joy and a sense of accomplishment a standard job cannot bring me. Read more>>
I pursued an artistic and creative career because I have always loved the idea of creation. Being able to craft something that hasn’t been made before is beautiful. It comes with its challenges but I wouldn’t trade what I do for the world. Being able to express myself is something that I find necessary in life, and to be able to make money is a bonus. I get to enjoy what I do, and am able to share that with my clients. Read more>>
