Meet Phil Almaki | Entrepreneur & CEO Papa’s Pizza & BBQ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Phil Almaki and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phil, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Habits are the base of success, without forming strict habits it is almost impossible to succeed. The habits that helped me the most were setting small goals for myself to be better, staying motivated, and learning from my mistakes. Another big thing that helped me was being consistent. I remember when I opened up my first store I was there everyday opening and closing to make sure everything was done perfectly. Putting in the work and showing up for yourself and holding yourself accountable is the #1 thing you can do to help yourself succeed. You have to develop a hustle and give your all to go after whatever you set your mind to. Once you have that, the sky is the limit.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own the franchise Papa’s Pizza & BBQ. We opened up our first location in 2000 on the East Side of Detroit. I was new to the food industry and I had a vision to grow and expand. I developed high quality products that I knew people would love. I had set small goals for myself and little by little I was checking them off one by one. After our first year in business the feedback was great, people were coming from all over to try our food.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting I would hope its during Christmas time! The city is so beautiful around that time. I would start with showing them Campus Martius Park and all the cool places down there. We would definitely check out my pizza places and grab some food and some Lucki’s cheesecakes! I would also take them to the mall, Great Lakes crossing there is a lot to do there and even hang out at Top Golf after! I love to Golf.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe my success to God, without God none of this would be possible. Second, My wife Jessica, who has been there for me since day 1, without her running our home and taking care of my kids and sacrificing her time and effort while I was in the stores day and night none of this would also be possible. Last, my six kids who have kept me motivated and determined to be better. My whole family have always been my biggest supporters and are always cheering me on and nothing in the world is more rewarding then that itself.
