Meet Nick Kennerly | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Kennerly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue an artistic career because my life would have little meaning otherwise. For me, it’s not about chasing fame or success but about finding ways to continually be more of service to the music that wants to pass through me. In turn, I am able to be more of service to others by sharing my most pure and uninhibited art.
The element of performance is something that I particularly can’t get enough of. Though I love the recording process, live performance is where I find my true self and the ability to surrender to the music and the moment. In my own shows, I challenge myself by being vulnerable through taking difficult musical risks. Performance helps me feel my own emotions more deeply and I hope it also allows others to feel what they need in a fresh way.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started out by playing violin only for other artists. This gave me a great foundation and allowed me to take what I wanted musically and leave the rest. I loved being able to help bring others visions to life. But, as I got older I realized I needed to share my own voice and pursue my own artistry. While I still don’t make money doing this I am able to still work for others to support myself and pursue my dream in the process. Nothing is easy in the music business and I am constantly fighting for my worth. However, I wouldn’t trade this for anything else. It’s a dream in itself to play my instrument every day and continually explore my own artistry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have to say Santa Monica as this is my hometown and I grew up next to the ocean. There is a certain magical energy there as you can eat amazing food and then spend the day at the beach. It’s inspiring and relaxing at the same time and feeling the ocean breeze always has a wonderful cleansing effect.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe my artistic journey to my incredible parents who got me started at the age of 4. They always have supported me and gently pushed me to keep going when I wanted to smash my violin and give up. Thank you Rebecca & David Kennerly. Love you guys!
