Hi Gabrielle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There were several factors that influenced my decision to start my own business. On a personal level, it was about seizing control over my time, crafting a schedule that allowed me to prioritize moments with my children, and fostering a healthier work-life balance. Beyond these personal motivations, my deeper drive stemmed from a desire to channel my passion into something tangible, to make a meaningful impact in my community, and to create a space where individuals could rejuvenate their spirits and unlock their full potential.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At The Style Guru, we’ve redefined the concept of a boutique. More than just a retail space, we’ve created a sanctuary where women can recharge and rediscover their confidence. Our boutique offers an elevated shopping experience that resonates with our customers on a personal level. What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to outstanding customer service. From the moment our customers step through our doors, they’re greeted with warmth and respect. Our luxurious walk-in closet aesthetic, complemented by complimentary beverage service, creates an atmosphere of indulgence and relaxation. Our personalized styling services ensure that each customer leaves not only looking stylish but also feeling understood and empowered.

My journey to where we are today has been fueled by a diverse skill set and deep industry understanding. With a Bachelor of Science in Apparel and Textile Design, coupled with a focus on Entrepreneurship, I gained foundational knowledge in both the creative and business aspects of the fashion world. Hands-on retail experience, ranging from sales to management roles, provided invaluable insights into customer needs and effective team management. My background in the finance industry equipped me with financial management skills and strategic planning expertise. While the journey hasn’t been easy, I’ve learned the importance of consistency, steadfastness, and patience. Challenges are inevitable, but staying consistent in our efforts and being patient for success to unfold over time has been crucial. Every challenge has been an opportunity for growth and learning.

I want the world to know that The Style Guru isn’t just about selling clothes; it’s about providing a space for women to recharge, rediscover their confidence, and embrace their personal style. Our boutique is a haven where every woman can feel understood, empowered, and celebrated.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since opening my brick and mortar last year, I don’t have a lot of free time so I’m a little behind on the new places to go. When it comes to showing my BFF the ultimate time in town, it’s all about curating a week-long experience filled with unforgettable moments. Despite my busy schedule as a new full-time entrepreneur, I’m all about discovering new and unique experiences that include amazing food, craft cocktails, and impeccable aesthetics. My go-to sources for finding the latest hot spots are VibesDetroit and DetroitHalalEats Instagram pages, ensuring we hit the trendiest restaurants and vibes in town. But, House of Chimney Cakes, Sexy Steak, Dining in the Dark, Candlelight Concerts, Rivage Spa, a Speak Easy and a fancy rooftop spot will definitely be on the itinerary!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my dad! His unwavering support, guidance, and the entrepreneurial spirit he instilled in me have been instrumental in shaping my journey. With over 30 years of successful business ownership under his belt, he not only served as a role model but also as a source of inspiration and motivation. My dad deserves immense credit for igniting the spark of entrepreneurship within me. His dedication, hard work, and resilience have always been a beacon of light, showing me the possibilities of what can be achieved with passion and perseverance. Losing my dad was undoubtedly a profound loss, but it was also a transformative moment in my life. Taking over the management of his business thrusted me into the world of entrepreneurship, providing me with the necessary push and confidence to pursue my own path aligned with my passions. I am forever grateful for the lessons, love, and encouragement my dad provided. His legacy lives on through my entrepreneurial journey, and I strive every day to honor his memory by following in his footsteps while carving out my own unique path.
