We had the good fortune of connecting with Nora Chrissi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nora, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I write about my life and express myself through my music. Singing and writing music has been my focus since I was a kid. I’ve written almost every day of my life. I think it shows in my music. I feel music I don’t just write to write. It helps me understand my experience better. I think music really does for all of us. When it’s genuine you can feel the difference.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an R&B singer songwriter, jazz pianist and producer. My music blends elements of R&B, pop, soul, and jazz. I have a degree with a concentration in jazz piano and come from a long line of musicians. Growing up, my mom taught piano. All my life I’ve been surrounded by music. It’s always been the center of my life and my purpose. Learning how to produce for myself has been very rewarding yet challenging. I play multiple instruments and have a lot of ideas which makes up for part of producing, but learning the ins and outs of the software was a different story. I’m happy to produce for myself now and am super glad I was dedicated and patient enough to teach myself. Right now, I’m most excited about connecting with more new fans and just getting out there and sharing what I have loved and done my whole life. I hope my music can have as much an effect on people as the music I listen to continues to have on me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s a lot of interesting music venues in Detroit. Spotlite and BigPink are definitely my top two live music spots at the moment. There’s always good music and good vibes when I go to either venue with friends. Condado Tacos is one of my favorite spots in Detroit. When I lived in Midtown, I would go there. They have good drinks and great food, that’s always fresh and healthy. Mutiny has great drinks as well. If you like fruity sweet drinks definitely go, there. I stopped in there with a friend in March and had a great time, the atmosphere is so friendly and welcoming.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my lovely mom. She’s been my biggest cheerleader, motivator, advice council, haha. She’s helped and motivated me to be better and has supported me the whole way.
