We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Q Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert Q, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
The ability to try again every day makes me happy. To be able to do something new every day brings me so much joy. Yes, i fail, alot. But thats ok. I have come to understand that its not the destination, its the journey you fall in love with. Doing things every single day is what makes life amazing. I love life as fully as i can and with little to no regrets. I give my all in everything i do. I go to sleep and rest well because i know i leave it all on the table. You never really take a “loss”, you either WIN or you learn something.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love acting. It truly is a passion. I have always been a hardworking and dedicated person. But being able to put that into something I love doing has been amazing. I always believe im the hardest worker in the room. Im willing to do what is needed to show my skill and talents. Being in the Air Force for 12 years gave me an immense amount of discipline. Add that to my amazing upbringing from my family and it built a foundation of a highly productive life. It hasnt been easy. I’ve had some disappointing experiences and setbacks. But I learned to use those things as stepping stones to get better. Things dont happen to you, they happen for you. I just stayed focused on the end goals. And i always required more for myself. I wanted to be successful more than i wanted to give up. Im blessed because i also had the right people around me to keep my mindset balanced and focused if it got too much. Life has taught me so much. But the one thing that drives me daily is remembering to accept my past without regret, handle my present with confidence, and face my future without fear. The TOP of one mountain, is the bottom of another. I will ALWAYS keep climbing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Detroit is a great place. I love what we are doing here in the city. Its a slow process but watching it all come together has been great to see. Im a foodie! So anything with food im all in for. I have so many places i love. Yum village, Terris cakes Detroit, Sweet potato sensations, The Block, Good times. And i love sneakers and local brands. My two favorites are The Three thirteen store and AYV. Theres always some event going on in the city at the local bars or event spaces. Going to a Sheefy Mcfly pop up at SPOT LITE while he plays his music or some small venue in mid-town is amazing. Getting a call from GmacCash to show up at one of his shows downtown is always a great time. Detroit has alot of “hidden gems” that will provide an amazing experience. You just have to know the right people.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! I would love to shoutout Richard Bass, Jayna Black, Tonja “the shoe lady” Ayers and Joe Smith. These were the first people to believe in me in the acting world. Back before the filming industry took off, these individuals were in theater. They saw my love for acting and gave me an opportunity to do what i love. Here we are over 10+ years later making movies now together. Im grateful to their dedication to the craft. They have taken me along with them on the journey and its been so much fun.
