Meet Alyssa Grosman | Dog Trainer and Walker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Grosman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Hi, My name is Alyssa Grosman I own and operate Tilted Ear Training and Walking LLC. My thought process behind starting my business was quite overwhelming. I had a lot of feelings while moving through the process. When I started to get serious about it and decided to make it come to life, I made the choice to contact someone from a small business consulting office my school provides. My consular helped me go through all the legal documents to make sure everything was filed correctly and on time. In reaching out to them eased my anxiety. I also brought on board a CPA because messing up on the financial aspect of owning a business scares me as well. Once I had those two people on board, I could get to work on the things I do enjoy about owning a business. Next came building the website, marketing, as well as opening. Since opening my doors, I have hit my 2-month goal in 1 month! For me it was well worth pushing through all my anxiety that was stopping me in the first place. I can’t wait to continue helping my community with their dogs and better understanding how to coexist because well….Both ends of the Leash Matter.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Becoming a certified dog trainer was made super easy for me. I owned a dog for a few months while working at a doggie daycare, while I was there I met my mentor. She said I could be a great dog trainer. I went under her wing, and she taught me a lot. She taught me how to look for accredited people in a field that is not regulated. I learned which schools are well accredited and have science behind their methods. I started my journey with Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) in 2020 when the world came to a stop. At KPA I learned all about how canines learn and how you can teach them to coexist with their humans. I thought it was so cool that we can teach a separate species how to live with us in harmony. I have been training ever sense. The hardest part of my journey was starting my company, however if I had to do it all over again, I would. I absolutely love what I do, and I will happily talk to anyone who wants to stop me and talk dog! Training is my passion that I hope never fades.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Ypsilanti, MI you can always find us at Rolling Hills Park, or at Riverside Park or Leforge nature preserve. If you are in the area, I highly suggest checking out Depot Town Dog and Cats pet store. My favorite places to grab dinner at has to be Issa’s Pizza, Dos Hermanos, and Speedy’s Big Burgers. When stopping in Ypsilanti, you have to check out World of Rocks and Twisted Things.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to thank everyone in my life who made this all possible! I couldn’t have done it without your support!
