Meet Emily Loewer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Loewer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve worked in all different types of shops in the past, and felt ready to create a space that not only provided the creative environment I craved as an artist but also a calm and intimate experience for the client as well. My business partner Abby and I have cultivated a space that allows clients to feel welcome and confident in their self expression and autonomy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a tattoo artist and owner of Parallel Tattoo Studio, specializing in fine line black and gray. I’ve been interested in art since I was a child- one of my first memories is drawing a ladybug in my grandma’s basement- and as I grew up that interest never wavered. When I started getting tattooed not long after I turned 18, it was like a light switch flipped on in my brain. Being able to give someone a piece of art that they will see on their skin every day of their life is a special privilege, and that is what drives my passion for tattooing.
The road hasn’t always been easy- between a steep learning curve, demanding apprenticeships, and a worldwide pandemic, there were a few times I considered walking away for good and going back to a corporate job that paid the bills but bored me to tears. About a year and a half to two years into my career, I finally hit my stride and found a style that not only resonated with me, but also with my clients. From there it never slowed down, and I’m thankful to be able to create beautiful art for my clients every day. Whether I am doing a tattoo to boost someone’s confidence, or cover a scar, or even just to make them smile when they look in the mirror, I am grateful.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love exploring Easttown! Chai lattes and muffins are a must from Wealthy Street Bakery, or if I remember to preorder during the week, Midnite Patisserie has been a current favorite Saturday mornings. The Fulton Street farmer’s market is always a stop for fresh fruit or flowers (both to draw and to enjoy) and to look at handmade items. Even just walking around Heritage Hill and looking at the big old houses is fun! During the evenings, I attend live shows at the Pyramid Scheme and the Intersection, as well as local music festivals. I also recommend making the drive out to West Olive for Wind’s Nest Park, my favorite beach, to sit and listen to the waves and watch the sunset.
I’m a bit of a homebody, so a lot of my time is spent with my partner and my pets. I love watching horror movies, nature documentaries, and Studio Ghibli films while I paint or play with the cats. There’s always some craft in progress at my house!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thank you to my business partner Abby Croskey, who has been ready for anything since day one, and to my fiancée Morgan Rockfall, for pushing me to make a leap of faith!
