We had the good fortune of connecting with Marylyn Jewett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MaryLyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a love for words, and wanted to share my words and thoughts with the world. When I was younger, this manifested itself through blogs I used to share fiction and writing many novels. As I got older, I was drawn to the mediums of podcasting and blogs, as I saw a need for authentic Christian content offered in compassion. In an online world that is loud and eager to cancel people, I strive to be honest and gentle in my views whenever possible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I strive to stand apart in my communication style. On my podcast specifically, I prioritize the relationship of the person I am talking to over being “right” or “winning” whatever the topic at hand is. In my writing and content creating in general, I strive to keep foremost the fact that everyone is living life for the first time, and struggling with the same things. No one has it figured out or ever will. I really try to keep our humanity and inherent human limitations in mind as I write/create, and do my best to offer grace and understanding where possible.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a little niche, but I would take them to a speak easy nearby! There’s a lovely hidden speak easy in a town near me, that requires a password and everything. Once inside, you’re led by a guide down through a boiler room and into a moody basement bar. They have the best food, drinks, and secretive vibes!

If the person I’m with doesn’t like drinking, I’d take them to the Edsel and Eleanor Ford Estate for a tour of the grounds and a walk around bird Island.

If they hate the outdoors (an unfortunate character flaw), we’re hitting up a local starbucks.

If they hate coffee…we probably aren’t friends anymore, haha!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first and foremost offer the glory to God. I have been saved by His grace, and the gifts I now strive to use with excellence are from Him alone.
As part of how He has reached me, I have been blessed and greatly influenced by the writings of C.S Lewis, and Alicia Childers. Both are excellent writers and communicators. If I can have even a fraction of the success they have, I would be blessed beyond measure.
