We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jonathan Lazar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Jonathan, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Grand Blanc, MI. I’m the youngest of three. My Dad owned (still does) an engineering company and my Mom was a nurse. I was a really sick kid. I required surgeries for cancer and for digestive trouble. I was medicated, had tubes in my ears, and my medication list kept growing. When I was in undergraduate school and was applying for medical school, I realized, “I’m taking all these [nine] medications and I’ve had all these surgeries, and I’m not any healthier than I was before. In fact, I think I’m getting more sick every year.” A mentor of mine suggested I look into becoming a doctor of chiropractic. I wasn’t very interested in that field, but looked into it to be polite. I was intrigued and interested. Having been under chiropractic care for several years at that point, I knew I liked and respected the profession, I just never thought I would be part of it. I went to chiropractic school at the Fountainhead, Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. During my time there, I explored some really cool specialties within Upper Cervical care. While I was looking into it, I started receiving this highly specialized care and within one year of starting this care, I was off all nine prescription medications! It was the most powerful experience I’ve ever had physically.

When I finished my general and then specialty training, I had job offers in some really cool places around the country. However, I knew ultimately I wanted to have kids in a place where we were geographically close to family. So, we considered where in southeast Michigan people would already be used to traveling for specialty care and determined Troy or Ann Arbor, MI would be the best spots. We didn’t want to raise our kids in Troy, so we picked Saline, which is a suburb of Ann Arbor. Upper cervical chiropractic care wasn’t offered in Ann Arbor, so I had to either give up my dream of helping people this way or start my own practice. I chose the latter.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Lazar Spinal Care, P.C. in 2008 because I didn’t see other clinics that offered individualized, corrective care in a way that would place patient results as the highest standard. It was challenging because insurance doesn’t pay for corrective care and to do things well takes a lot of testing, iterating, and scrutinizing. These all cost money. We had to figure out our systems, figure how to communicate them, figure out how to get patients to value them and pay for them long enough for them to see results.

I’ve learned that transparency and vulnerability is key. I’ve also learned that when I’m convicted about something, it will work out because no one can talk me out of following my convictions.

I want everyone in the world to know the world deserves you at your best. If you have brainstem pressure, it will show up in tons of different ways like migraines, autism, ah/hd, depression, anxiety, body pain, neuralgias, herniated discs, and all sorts of other symptoms. What’s more, that will rob you of living out your full, God-given potential. Brainstem pressure is easy to detect and very correctable; people just need to know to have it checked for.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oooohhhh – we’d definitely have breakfast at Zingerman’s Roadhouse. We’d go downtown to campus and see the Big House and the architecture UMich has to offer. We’d have coffee in the Shinola coffee shop and catch up. We’d shop at Nickel’s Arcade, visit the arboretum, go to Kerrytown and visit Zingerman’s Deli and Next Door. We’d eat dinner at Chop House and West End Grill. We’d grab another lunch at Carlyle Grill. I’d show my friend my office and offer to do a Laser Therapy Session or a Stem Cell Session so they could experience the power of that work. I’d also get him adjusted – only a handful of people in the world are Board Certified in Quantum Spinal Mechanics. I’m super proud of that work. I’d want him to meet Ari at Zingerman’s, Zander at Chop House, Gordie at West End Grill, and Chino at Carlyle. We’d visit my church in Plymouth (Northridge Church) and would have my massage therapist Dominique come over to my house for in-home massages.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh my word…I would thank so many people! Do you know how a turtle gets on top of a fence post? Somebody helped it get there! I’m the turtle! My gratitude extends to my Savior Jesus Christ, my beautiful wife, Kari, without whom I would be an incomplete hot mess, our children, our parents, my mentors. The list is super long…
