We had the good fortune of connecting with Mehreen Buksh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mehreen, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Miraj Events is the commitment to truly understanding and bringing our clients’ visions to life. Every event tells a unique story, and I focus on creating personalized experiences that reflect my clients’ dreams.

Equally important is having a business partner who shares the same vision and is aligned with the goals of building the business. Collaboration, mutual understanding, and shared ambition have been essential to our success.

Above all, maintaining faith that this journey will work out and staying optimistic, even during tough times, has been a cornerstone of my approach. Challenges are inevitable, but believing in the purpose behind the work and staying resilient has helped Miraj Events continue to grow and thrive.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Miraj Events, we see event planning as one of the most beautiful expressions of art. For me, creativity has always been a part of who I am, whether it’s admiring a piece of art, watching a performance, or creating unforgettable moments through events. There’s something truly magical about turning someone’s cherished vision into a reality—it’s like bringing a dream to life, and to me, that’s art in its purest form.

We truly care about the people we work with. We take the time to understand what makes each client’s story special, and put that into every detail of their event. One thing I’m most proud of is seeing the joy on a client’s face when they finally see the vision in real life — it’s the moment where all the hard work feels worth it. I get so excited about bringing new ideas to life and making every event uniquely memorable.

I started off by helping with community events and friends’ weddings because I just loved it. But, turning that passion into a business took time and perseverance. I’m also incredibly lucky to have a strong, supportive team and a business partner who believes in this dream just as much as I do. They’ve been on the same page with me every step of the way, bringing just as much passion and confidence, if not more, that this is our true calling and will be successful. Their support has made all the difference.

I learned to roll with the punches and focus on solutions. Building strong relationships with clients and vendors made a big difference, and listening to feedback helped me grow. Each challenge has taught me something new and made me better at what I do.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to stay authentic and true to what I love. Communication and trust are everything—whether it’s with clients, my team, or vendors. And I’ve learned that every challenge is an opportunity to grow and get even more creative.

Miraj Events isn’t just about planning events, it’s about creating moments that people will never forget. I pour my heart into every event, and I feel so lucky to be able to bring people’s dreams to life. At the end of the day, it’s about making people happy and celebrating them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I’d make sure their trip was packed with all my favorite things: great food, fun adventures, and a mix of vibrant cities and charming little escapes. Here’s how I’d plan it:

Detroit:
We’d start off in Detroit, a city I absolutely love for its energy and amazing food. First stop is Sweetwater Tavern for the best wings you’ll ever have. Then we’d grab coffee at Anthology Cafe or Madcap Coffee—both have some of the best drinks that always hit the spot. And, of course, no visit to Detroit is complete without Buddy’s Pizza for some authentic Detroit-style pizza.

When we’re not eating, we’d stroll along the Detroit Riverwalk or check out the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) for some culture. We’d also explore Corktown, where trendy restaurants and cool little shops make it a great area to hang out. If there’s a Lion’s football game or concert at Little Caesars Arena, we’d absolutely go—it’s always a fun vibe.

Ann Arbor:
Next, we’d head to Ann Arbor. We’d start our day at Black Diesel for the best coffee—it’s my go-to spot whenever I’m there. Lunch would be at Joe’s Pizza for that perfect New York-style slice followed by some ice cream from Milk and Froth, because honestly, their flavors are out of this world. And then, for dinner we’d go to Tomukun for some of the tastiest ramen and Korean BBQ.

Ann Arbor is such a fun place to explore. We’d walk around the University of Michigan campus, which has this incredible Hogwarts-like vibe that always feels magical. Check out the graffiti alley and go kayaking along the Huron River. And we’d definitely take a walk through the Nichols Arboretum (Arb), which is gorgeous no matter the season.

Windsor:
Since Windsor is just across the Detroit river, we’d make a quick trip to Canada for some of the best Indian and Pakistani food around. It’s such a fun way to add a little international flair to the trip, and the food is always worth the drive.

Day Trips:
If we were feeling adventurous, we’d take a day trip to Chicago. Chicago is perfect for a quick getaway—we’d grab some deep-dish pizza, visit Millennium Park, and wander along the Magnificent Mile for some retail therapy.

This trip would be a perfect mix of all my favorite things: Detroit’s vibrant energy, Ann Arbor’s charm, Windsor’s amazing food, and maybe even a little adventure in Chicago. It’s all about celebrating the best of the area and making unforgettable memories with good food, good vibes, and good company!
