We had the good fortune of connecting with Skettio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Skettio, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue a career in music because I want to leave something behind in this world that people will remember me for long after I’m gone. Music lasts forever. I want to create a sound that inspires others like me to express their creativity and push boundaries.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started making beats in late 2021. I wasn’t taking it too seriously at first, I was more so learning the software and basic fundamentals of music theory before I made anything redeemable.

Over the years, I’ve developed a sound that’s starting to become more recognizable, but I still feel like I have a long way to go. My style is very dark for the most part, and I like to combine as many different sub-genres of Hip Hop that I’ve admired over the years into my own “type beats.”

I still don’t feel like I’m remotely close to my professional peak, but I’ve gotten to where I am today by meeting some incredibly talented people who have become my best friends in the world. Learning from them and bouncing ideas off each other has molded me into the producer I am today. It wasn’t easy to get here by any means, I’ve sacrificed a lot, but I still need to reach a whole new level of locked in to get to where I want to be.

I’ve learned that nothing will be handed to you in this game. You have to grind, you have to get lucky, and you have to be patient. Being innovative and seizing any opportunity that comes your way are two other components to success as a producer.

I can’t wait for the world to hear what I have in the vault. Me and Lelo have some insane music on the way, which is what I’m most excited for. I have some big songs out there that I’m hoping get released soon with some of my favorite Detroit artists, and I have a whole producer tape in the tuck with all the homies on there.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man, that’s tough. I’ve only been in the Metro Detroit area for a little under two years, but I like to think I could show the homies what it’s all about down here. I’m a big sports guy, so I’d of course try to get us to a Lions, Wings, Pistons, or Tigers game. I also love gambling (the homies are well aware of this) so I’d definitely hit Greektown with them too. As far as food goes, Oak Parker in Berkley is a great spot for a late dinner, Crispelli’s is amazing for coffee, shoutout to Sake Sushi and Bigalora in Royal Oak too. Night life wise, Paramita, Spotlite, Big Pink, and Midnight Temple are the go-to’s.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All my people from New Detroit and Nusonics. From the artists, Lelo, Apolloscase, Baby Kodex, TLG Deuce, and Coach Joey to the producers, Shogun, Cdub, Raine, Big Mill, Mello Risky, they’re all doing their thing out here and inspire me every single day.
