Meet Kendal Edmondson | Kendal Edmondson: Owner of The Mirrored Loft & Licensed Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendal Edmondson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendal, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
The conventional belief that a four-year college degree is essential for success is an idea that deserves reevaluation. I believe success can be defined in various ways, and it often depends on individual goals, passions, and skills. Many successful entrepreneurs, artists, and those who choose a trade have thrived without a traditional degree. Their achievements highlight that practical experience, creativity, and determination often outweigh formal education in the journey to success.
The rising costs of college tuition have made it difficult for many to justify a four year degree. Student debt can be a significant burden, leading students to sometimes question the value of their investment. In many fields, hands on training, vocational programs, or alternative education pathways can provide the necessary skills needed for a fulfilling career without the financial strain associated with a four-year institution. This alternative approach often equips individuals with hands-on experience that is directly applicable in the workforce, making them more attractive candidates to potential employers.
The rapid evolution of the job market often prioritizes skills and adaptability over formal credentials. Many employers now recognize the value of certifications, workshops, and self-directed learning. This shift in perspective allows individuals to carve their own paths based on their unique skills and experiences, rather than adhering to a one-size-fits-all model of success dictated by what we’ve always been taught. I believe the emphasis should shift from obtaining a degree to continuous learning and personal development, allowing individuals to thrive in ways that align with their personal and professional desires.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For over 20 years, my mom has been a cornerstone of the beauty industry, co-owning a successful salon with two partners. Her dedication, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit have not only shaped her career but also influenced me in everything I do. As I reflect on our journey together, I am reminded of how fortunate I am to step into this world alongside her. I was given the opportunity 4 years ago to buy out her previous partners and begin our dream together: The Mirrored Loft.
Transitioning from a well-established salon to our own venture presented a unique set of challenges. Learning the ins and outs of running a business—from managing finances, developing marketing strategies, to growing a team of wonderful employees—was a steep learning curve for both of us. There were days filled with uncertainty and moments of self-doubt, but with every obstacle, we always learn valuable lessons. We discovered the importance of adaptability, resilience, and the power of teamwork. These skills that have become essential in navigating the backend of business world.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been the opportunity to work closely with my mom. Owning a business together has deepened our bond and allowed us to share our vision for The Mirrored Loft. We are able to combine both of our strengths and use it to the best of our ability. Our partnership not only enhances our creativity but also provides a solid foundation of trust and understanding, making every challenge we face feel manageable.
Beyond our business goals, we are deeply committed to giving back to our community. The Mirrored Loft is not just a place for beauty; it’s a space for connection and service. We believe that our success is intertwined with the well-being of those around us. Our unique approach to client experience is our priority. We strive to create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere where clients feel valued and pampered. From the moment you walk through our doors, you are greeted with warmth and professionalism, ensuring that each visit is not just an appointment, but a rejuvenating experience. We are committed to personalized services. At The Mirrored Loft, we understand that every individual has unique needs and preferences. Our skilled team takes the time to listen to clients and tailor services specifically for them, whether it’s a haircut, color treatment, lash or skincare service. This personalized approach fosters strong relationships and trust, allowing us to deliver results that exceed expectations.
Together, my mom and I have created more than just a salon; we’ve chased our dream. The journey has taught us the importance of hard work, compassion, and the power of prayer. As we continue to grow The Mirrored Loft, we remain committed to serving our clients, empowering our team, and giving back to the community that has supported us for so many years.
In the end, what makes this journey so special is not just the business itself, but the relationship we have nurtured along the way. Sharing this experience with my mom is a privilege, and together, we look forward to many more years of beauty, growth, and community impact.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I believe Frankenmuth is one of the most unique places in all of the 50 states! From festivals, constant entertainment, great food, and rich history, you’ll always have something to do here.
If I were to give someone visiting Frankenmuth a list of places they have to go to while visiting- here would be a few!
The Mirrored Loft – Of course I had to mention here! We are Frankenmuth’s First Head Spa! A relaxing treatment you’re able to enjoy with your friends, while receiving all the physical benefits for your scalp and hair.
Zehnders or Bavarian Inn – a Frankenmuth must! Everyone has heard of the chicken. You’ll be able to enjoy the great food whole taking in the fun atmosphere of the German decor. You’re able to enjoy a family style meal, so you’ll want to come hungry!
Bronners – No matter what time of year it is, this is a Frankenmuth staple. It’s a Christmas WONDERLAND. Although it might feel a little funny looking at Christmas lights on a 90º July Day, everyone needs to experience the Christmas magic once in their life!
River Place Shops- If you’re into shopping, this is a great place to enjoy the fresh air while walking store to store! Inside the River Place is a bakery called SugarHigh Bakery. They are famously known for their appearance on Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars”. They have the best cupcakes/desserts you’ll ever have!
Prost Wine Bar and Charcuterie – This is my personal favorite place to eat in town. The food, wine, and vibes are always great. The summer evenings are my favorite as you’re able to sit outside and watch the hustle and bustle of downtown. Prost has done an excellent job at bringing something fun and fresh to Frankenmuth while being a space that caters to all age groups.
I could go on and on about everything to do in Frankenmuth. I’m fortunate to be a part of a community so great.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As I reflect on my journey so far, I can’t help but feel immense gratitude towards the two most loving and supportive people in my life – my mom and dad. They have been my unwavering supporters, even when I chose a path that diverged from the traditional “post high-school path”.
Growing up, I always knew that I did not have a passion for traditional learning. It was challenging for me to focus and be excited for the typical things you are taught in school. Growing up, my mom owned a salon my entire life, so that atmosphere was second nature to me. I loved the idea of all things beauty, but wasn’t certain I wanted that to be my career. When it came time to decide on my next steps after high school, although I knew that a conventional university program just wasn’t the right fit for me, I felt pressured and began my journey to my bachelors degree.
As you might’ve guessed, this didn’t last long. I quickly learned this was not where my heart was.
After many conversations with my parents and a lot of reflection and research, I decided on esthetician school. Being that my mom is a licensed cosmetologist, she had great insight and knowledge on how to help me find myself in this career. I remember the conversations with my parents, where I laid out my vision and aspirations. They could have easily pushed me towards a “safer” option, one that aligned with societal expectations. But to my great fortune, they did the opposite.
My mom and dad listened intently, asked thoughtful questions, and ultimately gave me their unwavering support. They recognized that my strengths and talents lay in a different direction, and they were determined to help me nurture that passion.
I’m constantly reminded how lucky I am to have parents who value my individuality and believe I’m able to accomplish whatever I set my mind to. In a world that often pressures us to conform, their willingness to let me be myself and chase my dreams has been the best gift I could ask for.
