Meet Cierra Mooney | Videographer, Content Creator & Digital Marketing Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Mooney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cierra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting CEtheMOON Productions was that I wanted to cultivate a new level of confidence and trust in myself and my creativity, frankly speaking. In my previous roles, my bosses appreciated having me on their teams because I shared their vision wholeheartedly. This dedication was evident in the energy and countless hours I devoted to my work. However, one day I realized that I had more faith in others than in myself. I noticed that I wasn’t bringing that same enthusiasm for my own goals. So, I decided to challenge myself. Despite overwhelming fear and the nagging voices of doubt, I took the leap to leave my job and launch my own short form media and marketing business to discover what I’m really made of.
What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my company is CEtheMOON Productions. We are recognized as a creative digital content firm committed to crafting memorable narratives and innovative content. What sets us apart is our mission to enhance human connection through digital media. We want the con When clients engage us to create content for their brand, service, or product, our primary objective is to forge a meaningful emotional connection with consumers. Additionally, I am multihyphenated, boasting a diverse background in marketing, film, media, production, directing, and event coordination, which I seamlessly incorporate into my work as needed.
I am particularly eager to bring all my ideas to life. I have numerous exciting plans to expand my company, but as a single individual with only 24 hours in a day, I must take it one step at a time.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked closely with multi-millionaire CEOs throughout my career. This experience has given me a front-row seat to understand the day-to-day operations of a business. Observing them has allowed me to learn invaluable life lessons that I now apply to my own business practices. I take great pride in taking the leap to start a business from scratch. Despite facing various challenges, I have no desire to give up.
One of the most significant challenges I am currently navigating is learning to thrive amidst uncertainty. I came across a quote that resonated with me: “Uncertainty is your stage, not your cage.” Learning as I go has proven to be an incredibly vulnerable and humbling experience. As a perfectionist, I struggle with appearing unsure of myself; I prefer to have everything organized. However, waiting for perfection has often held me back. Through the discomfort of uncertainty, I have gained valuable insights along the way. This entrepreneurial journey feels almost spiritual! It teaches you a lot about yourself, both the good and the bad. You also learn what you truly believe in and where your faith lies. I’ve had many “Come to Jesus” moments on this path, and while they haven’t always been pleasant, I have remained committed to moving forward… and I continue to do so.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For an unforgettable experience, I would take them to a concert at Chene Park (I know it’s officially called Aretha Franklin Theatre, but I’m old school, lol). Any concert there is an experience! The backdrop of the river and skyline creates a beautiful and serene atmosphere. Afterward, we’d enjoy dinner at Hiroki-San in the Book Tower. i love how they blend modern with traditional Japanese design. plus their menu is impressive! from the drinks to the cocktails. To cap off the night, we would head to the top of the tower at Kamper’s rooftop bar.
The following morning, we’d rise early for a walk along the riverfront to watch the sunrise over the Detroit River. Later, we’d visit the aquarium museum on Belle Isle. If it’s the weekend, I’d take them to Eastern Market for some shopping and lunch, followed by a trip to the Detroit vs. Everybody store. Then end of with dinner at Midnight Temple, an amazing Indian restaurant right in the eastern market area.
The following day, we would dedicate a few hours to exploring the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), a true gem of the city. Afterward, we’d head to The Belt on Gratiot to enjoy some frozen margaritas at The Skip, where we can people-watch and reflect on our museum experience. The fun would continue at Evening Bar, where we could indulge in more drinks and snacks. I really appreciate how this bar is somewhat hidden away in Parker’s Alley, creating a sense of exclusivity that I love when hosting out-of-town guests. To wrap up the day, we’d visit the black-owned speakeasy, Willow, for a nightcap.
On the following day, we’d catch a live jazz performance at Cliff Bell’s, where the ambiance and music create a perfect ending to our evening. For our final day, I’d suggest a leisurely brunch at Selden Standard, known for its delectable farm-to-table dishes. After brunch, we could explore the Motown Museum to soak in the music history and be inspired by the legends who shaped a generation’s sound. As our trip comes to a close, a tranquil stroll through Belle Isle Park would be the perfect way to reflect on our adventures and appreciate all the beauty Detroit has to offer.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow! I definitely can’t narrow it down to just one person!
Firstly, a shoutout to my close friend Ashley in DC. Ashley is perhaps the most observant and brutally honest friend I have. She helps me recognize my strengths, weaknesses, and everything in between, which has been instrumental in identifying my “areas of opportunity,” as my dad likes to say.
Next, a shoutout to Nina in Atlanta. Nina, another friend who doesn’t hold back, is an incredible businesswoman. She has been vital in guiding me through the business side of CEtheMOON, helping me navigate through closing deals and properly protect my intellectual property.
I also want to recognize Ty in Germany. Ty was the first to invest in my business by hiring me to assist with producing her music video in Morocco, which led to other exciting projects.
A huge shoutout goes to my sister! I feel so blessed to have her in my life. I couldn’t ask for a more wonderful and supportive sister. She excels at lifting my spirits when I’m too hard on myself, and she’s great at reminding me that I’m amazing and capable of doing amazing things.
I’d like to thank my dad as well for being a fantastic support system. He was a trailblazer, one of the first Black men to break into corporate America in the 70s, and he sustained his career until he retired in 2018. He taught me the importance of following through on my commitments, which is a vital part of my business. Being a woman of my word is very important to me, thanks to his influence.
Lastly, I must give a shoutout to my mom, my biggest cheerleader. She roots for me, prays for me, and would give me the shirt off her back if needed. Her love is consistently demonstrated through her actions, and she adores me unconditionally. No matter what, she always finds a way to celebrate my achievements. That’s my mama!
There are so many more who have inspired me, but it’s too extensive to list them all right now.
