Meet James Lindsey | Lyricist, Author and Mentor

We had the good fortune of connecting with James Lindsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My mother was a lover of music so our household always had music as part of its foundation. I was born in 1973 the same year as Hip Hop and I fell in Love with Hip Hop by 1984 with the movie Crush Groove and the Run DMC Raising Hell tour. I was only a listener and fan until my second year of college at Ferris State University. I wrote my first verse and rocked my first show on the yard at Ferris. I have grown within the culture the last 30 years and I feel I will always be a creative within it. I love Hip Hop

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a lyricist from Grand Rapids Michigan who has been involved in the Hip Hop community since breakdancing in 5th grade 1983. I am proud to see how the culture has taken over the world. I am an artist that is all about creativity and and uplifting of the art of Hip Hop. I write songs that start as targeted concepts. I believe in the artistry of our Culture. I am part of two rap groups, Up North Ent and Creative Space. I am very proud of my upcoming solo album Destiny which will help usher in a new lane for Adult Hip Hop. I’m excited to introduce the music world to our new label Ready Set Media Music Group. It’s time to put it down for those Grown up Hip Hop lovers who havn’t been fulfilled in years. My challenges have been left behind because I didn’t let everyday life take my love for being an MC so this continued growth and maturity as a Hip Hop artist has lead me here. I wear many hats Author, Motivational Speaker, Coach etc. Lyricist is one Title that I am most proud of. The Love of the Art has always pushed my to keep elevating all these years later.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to a Lions game or a Pistons game depending on the dates they are visiting. I would take them to Bakers Lounge for Live Jazz music, great atmosphere and even better food. I would make sure we visited a good cigar bar and enjoyed a premium stick. Always gotta hit Bel Isle and enjoy Detroit vibes. I would also see what kind of luck we had by visiting at least one of the Casinos.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
