We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Lynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has allowed me to have opportunities to meet so many incredible people and pursue areas of art that I wouldn’t have been able to get into without kicking a few doors down and bending some rules (artistically speaking) haha.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my buisness during Covid. I had a handful of artists that I was communicating with and picking their mind about how they sold things and marketed themselves. I kind of took a risk on myself and started developing a business plan that led me into getting an Etsy and selling prints or some of my art. Barely knew how to market myself and did not have a real idea of what o wanted to bring into spaces with my abilities. I’m proud to say that through a lot of adversity and difficulties, I found my spot (artistically speaking) I’ve been afforded opportunities to travel all over the state of Michigan and beyond, Tackle a wide variety of projects and events, Freelance Illustration and Graphic Design, Gallery Work, Caricatures at events, festivals, weddings, and mural work is what I’ve been specializing in the last few years of my business’s growth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s tough one! Most of my people already live locally and have nearly identical ideas about what is essential here haha. I would definitely have to start out with a trip to the lake in Muskegon. Followed by a trip to “The Deck” restaurant for some incredible vibes and live music. Little things are the big things to me and I think those would allow you to get intimately acquainted to a sometimes overlooked part of Michigan.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to definitely start the list with my parents. All of the bought sketchbooks, art books, DVDs and movies that inspired a lot of my creativity at a young age. Endless trips to Hobby Lobby to buy Copic markers, prismacolor pencils and other overpriced art tools. I’ve been blessed with many supporters and even mentorship from artists and that I grew up worshipping, However; none of this, happens without that initial support from them and their very, very, patient energy watching my creative flame burn brighter and brighter over the years.
