Meet Alicia Hawthorne | Accessory Designer & Seamstress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Hawthorne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alicia, why did you pursue a creative career?
The career chose me! When I was in high school I needed my Mom to fix a dress for me and she got tired of me bugging her about it so she decided to show me how to use her sewing machine and the rest is history!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love to sew but I get the most joy from making accessories. I’m most excited about the future of Champagne Taste Accessories. With my new brand I’m more intentional, thoughtful and patient about my designs. I’m only here today because I never gave up! Despite the challenges of being a single mother and choosing to pursue design/seamstress work her in Detroit where the opportunities were very slim. So no it was not easy. Detroit is beginning to thrive in area of fashion and art and I excited to be apart of the community and it’s growth. One of the many lessons I’ve learned is to be humble so I can allow myself to grow and learn. Champagne Taste Accessories does not want to be just a trendy throw away piece. I design these pieces to be apart of your wardrobe for years to come! Timeless go to pieces.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Riverwalk and Belle Isle for sure! The People Mover! Campus Martius. I would hit the Avenue of Fashion. Kuzzos for brunch. Pao for dinner. Maybe Somerset. Coney Island of course lol. Catch a sporting event or concert.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have stuck by my side from the beginning. I couldn’t ask for better parents! Thanks Mommy and Daddy-O, I love you!
