Meet Amari Walker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amari Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amari, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born and partially raised in Detroit,Michigan. I mostly grew up in a suburban city called Southfield outside of Detroit. The biggest benefit was growing up among various backgrounds.

That shaped how I communicate with all walks of life. It forces you to be open minded and not take everything for granted.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started out on Youtube in 2014. 10 years later I’m still a personality and content creator. However, it’s slightly different than how I started. Going from a Reaction Youtuber to Pop Culture analysis/ Video journalist. I make videos dissecting the different elements of Pop Culture. The videos for my channel overlap in discussing of Music, Fashion, and Film. That has culminated into my brand, WDComments. This brand operates as a hub for my services as a freelance Video editor, Content Curator and Designer.

The biggest challenge is growing at a slow pace. The way I preserve through this is continuously releasing material, connecting with creators, and engaging with my audience.

The type of creator that I’ve become is more befitting. I’m excited making these connections with others. Meeting extraordinary people and working with them. I take pride in what I do and building community.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are a few place I would take an out of town friend. The Detroit Institute of Arts is a goldmine of creativity. I’ve visited many times. The Riverwalk is a classic place to experience downtown and the natives. Deluxx Fluxx is every underground club scene’s dream. It’s colorful and lively energy is sensational. Bash Original Izakaya is a great sushi bar restaurant to engage. Those are some ideal places to start your pallet while visiting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My best friend Terry Thomas deserves a shout out for helping to build my confidence. We have a very unique spark that makes all our engagements very meaningful.

The energy he brings to the table is always special. That to me is irreplaceable in my life. There’s no feeling in the world than that type of bond.
