Meet Brandon Wooten | DJ, Promoter, & Personality

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Wooten and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan. Although I had a relationship with my biological family, I was in foster care & got adopted at the age of 13. Birth name Brandon DeShon Anderson but adopted and changed to Brandon BeJoun Wooten by my adopted mom Sandra Wooten ( all of our friends called her “Killa Kay” because she don’t play). My biological family taught me how to have tough skin, how to hustle, and how to just be me. My adopted family taught me structure, the little discipline I have, they also taught me a lot about building a strong foundation. So I got the best of both worlds growing up which makes me who I am today. I’m one of the hardest working DJs in my area and i plan to take it all over the world. All while honoring my biological and adopted family. My stage name is DJ Woo Beatz for a reason.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I always knew that i would have to work for myself because i could never keep a job for over 1 year. I’ve loved music since I was little, so music was and still is my life. Once I started taking my music serious, that’s when all the challenges began. Throughout the years I’ve build relationships with promoters, radio owners, club owners, other DJs, business owners and etc. Those relationships was not build overnight. I got told no way more than I got told yes. It’s times when I just wanted to chill but I know I have to show my face in places to network. One of my biggest challenges was walking away from 98.9 the beat. (Flint radio station). Great staff over there but I feel as if they didn’t see my vision, it hurt me to leave I was crying like a baby to my family. I wasn’t crying because I was out of a job, I’ve built relationships with people I will always have work, but I was crying because that was a big goal of mines to be on the radio and i only experienced it for 2 years. Other challenge was me not doing club venues because they don’t want to pay DJs what we deserve. So now I create my own parties and pay myself. That’s where i got my phrase “Ain’t no traffic when you in your own lane” from. I have build my brand to where I do bigger events now like concerts, basketball games, and high end retail stores.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A few places that I love around the city would have to be Prime Eight Ten first off. Good food, great people, and amazing vibes. Signature Chophouse is a must go same dope vibes. King’s Cigar Lounge on Miller Rd, these are just some of the mature crowd places to go enjoy yourself.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my children. You guys are the reason i really push myself, sacrifice, and keep going. I’m not the world’s greatest dad but i will be there for you guys forever. So my shoutout is dedicated to my children.
