Meet Brenda Maks | President and Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Maks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brenda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The drive to start my own business stemmed from a deep-seated desire for independence. I envisioned a life where I could freely express my creative ideas without the constraints of a traditional corporate environment. Having a history of entrepreneurial ventures, running my own businesses has always been a natural progression for me, allowing me to turn my vision into reality.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a dedicated professional with a diverse background, serving as a paralegal, licensed Realtor, Recovery Peer Coach, and both Owner of a for-profit business and Founder/President of a non-profit recovery resource center. My career has been built on hard work and perseverance. When I first entered the real estate field, I simultaneously owned and operated a cleaning company and a painting company, while maintaining a full-time paralegal position. In addition, I was a full-time student, earning my Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).
Throughout these demanding years, I also embraced the responsibilities of being a single parent to three sons. Balancing my professional ambitions and academic pursuits with family life was not easy, but I remained actively involved in my children’s sports and activities. When necessary, I sought support from family members, recognizing the importance of community and collaboration.
My workdays often extended to 14–17 hours, reflecting my dedication and drive. Through these experiences, I have learned that with determination and perseverance, any goal is attainable. As a person in long-term recovery, I have transformed my life and remained abstinent, striving to serve as a living example of what is possible. My journey stands as a testament to resilience and the power of steadfast commitment, both for myself and for those I am privileged to support on their own paths to recovery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my amazing family, especially my three incredible sons. My journey has been a whirlwind of workaholism, single motherhood, recovery, and unwavering dedication to helping others. As a single mom navigating recovery, I found my passion in opening recovery homes and a resource center, always striving to support those facing addiction. While I brought my sons along in this journey, my commitment sometimes meant sacrificing personal time with each of them. Despite this, their resilience, love, and understanding have been my anchors. This shoutout is for them, for enduring, for believing, and for being the heart of my world.
