We had the good fortune of connecting with Bubble Messages and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bubble, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I love sunny days. When I imagine myself happy I imagine clear skies, me walking outside, getting brunch on a patio with my girlfriends. Being warm makes me happy. Taking my time and being leisurely makes me happy.

Riding dick makes me happy. I am happy when I am sucking cock. Getting my ass plowed makes me happy. Gay sex makes me happy. It’s important for me to express this because there are people on this Earth who are gay sex haters! Boo!

It makes me happy to host people. I like being able to provide people with what they need and desire.

It makes me happy to be alive. I love to have fun, having fun makes me happy.

Happiness to me looks like I’ve done all my dishes and it’s my day-off and there endless possibilities.

My friend Kathy and I have been doing artist trades. They formed me a bowl of ceramics and I crocheted them a top. It made me happy to swap art objects with them. I was happy to see that the top I crocheted fit.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Grace Papineau-Couture has said that my artwork has a “chaotic intimacy”.

I make art because I’ve always made art and I like it. The art I make now reveres faggotry. I exalt homosexuality.
The art I make reflects how I feel inside. I express what I feel deep inside so that I may be healed. I let go of my emotions. I release my feelings. Through the catharsis of making I better myself. I hope to create things that I relate to greatly so that others may also relate. If I be myself maybe others will be themselves? (I give you permission).

What sets me apart from others? Maybe nothing. I try not to be concerned with others. I seek to be myself fully.

I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way. I have learned that no one is ever really there for me if I am not there for myself. I have learned that I must love myself over all. I have learned how precious time is and that I do not wish to waste it.

I am most proud of my ability to bounce back. As a queer person, I have dealt with a lot of bullshit put on to me by others. I brush it off. I don’t let it get to me. I remember who I am. I am love. I am connected to the infinite pool of love and creativity and source energy. I overcome the challenges by surrendering to them. I do not resist.

The art I make mirrors my exploration of gender expression. As I discover new ways of working with materials I discover new ways to move in the world.

I’ve been told my art is radical, but it doesn’t try to be.

Professionally, I am in my second year of three in the Fine Arts, MFA program at Columbia College Chicago. It took work to get here.

If I could tell the world something through my brand or story, I would say, “Fuck it, let’s have fun! :)”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I moved to Chicago in September of 2022 and I have loved living here ever since. If my best friend was visiting, I would take her to Belmont Harbor or Montrose Beach. Seeing the city from the ledge looking out to Lake Michigan is a must! (and a dip is the perfect way to punctuate a summer day). If my friend was visiting on the weekend I would take them to SloMo at Sleeping Village on Saturday or Queen! at Smartbar on Sunday. A trip to Boystown, or Northalsted, would be cute too! To me, a visit to Chicago is not complete without a visit to Village Discount Outlet. Roost in Roscoe Village has amazing chicken sandwiches, by the way.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Immediately, I think of Olly Greer. Olly Greer is a dear friend of mine who I met when they TA’d a studio class I took in undergrad at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. They are one of my favorite artists who is still living and breathing, but also one of my favorite artists in general. They helped to expand the boundaries of what I believed art to be. Olly Greer brought Ryan Trecartin into my atmosphere. Seeing Ryan Trecartin’s “A Family Finds Entertainment” (2004) changed my life. Olly Greer continues to inspire me to this day. More than anyone I know, they care. I would be remiss to not mention Lestar en Cahoots who, just so happens to be Olly Greer’s partner, reminds me that one man’s trash is another’s treasure. Scraps forever. Olly and Lestar helped to film two music videos for me “Power Supply” and “Big Poser” for that I will be forever grateful.
