We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Randall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting Sweep really was a product of several things. I’ve always had the entrepreneurial itch, but I had spent 6 years in cooperate America at Pepsi prior to starting Sweep. My time there taught me a lot, but the emphasis of shareholder needs taking precedent over consumer needs didn’t sit right with me, and was really what started the process of wanting to start my own business. Then, on a long car ride to work one day in 2019, an audio book called, “My Master MBA” pointed out a couple things that successful businesses have in common. That is 1. adapting to the world of technology (my first thought was Uber), and 2. providing a service that people hate doing themselves (my first thought was laundry). After pondering those thoughts, I had a lightbulb moment. That is when I thought about Sweep…the cleaning service app. Once I had the idea, I couldn’t get it out of my head. I did all kinds of research online, confided in friends and family, and decided to make it a reality after much positive feedback. I found an app developer on Upwork at the time, and had it build in 2019. Then, once the app was finished, I launched it in 2020 (2 weeks before COVID…that’s a whole other story) and haven’t looked back since!

What should our readers know about your business?
At Sweep, we’re doing more than just cleaning homes—we’re reshaping what people expect from a cleaning service. I started this company in West Michigan with a simple goal: to make quality, dependable cleaning more accessible and easier to book, while creating real opportunities for the people doing the work.

What sets us apart is how we approach both sides of the equation. On one end, our clients get an easy-to-use platform where they can customize their clean, see their pricing upfront, and schedule with confidence. On the other end, our cleaners—many of whom are independent contractors—get real support, flexible work, and the opportunity to grow. We’re serious about both quality and consistency, and that balance has been key.

Getting here wasn’t easy. In the early days, I was doing everything myself—cleaning jobs, client calls, back-end tech, you name it. I had to learn how to build systems, how to scale without losing quality, and how to lead a team through growth that never really slows down. There were mistakes, plenty of lessons, and a lot of long nights, but every challenge forced me to build smarter and get clearer about what I was trying to create.

What I’m most proud of is that we’ve never compromised on values. We’ve stayed personal, honest, and hands-on—even as we’ve grown. I’ve seen our cleaners build full client lists, our customers refer us to their friends, and our name start to really mean something in the community. That’s what fuels me.

I want people to know that Sweep is about more than just clean spaces. It’s about giving people their time back, creating space for better moments, and doing things the right way—even when it’s harder. We’re just getting started.

I’d like to shout out my soon to be wife, Megan. Megan is the executive director of the Rockford Chamber of Commerce. She has provided a rock solid foundation of love and support to me, and has really gotten me out of my comfort zone when it comes to networking and community involvement. Herself and her organization have helped Sweep and myself grow and become better, and I am very thankful to have her!
