Meet Chrissy Heyne | Facilitator and Key Note Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrissy Heyne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chrissy, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
This has been a late(r) in life habit, but I’m finally into a regular practice of mindfulness/meditation. The research on this is obviously not confusing, but it took a while for me to 1. try it and 2. stick with it. Major shout out to the Waking Up app. I 100% recommend the introductory course. It’s what got me started and still my go-to app for meditation. Also, if you can’t afford it all you have to do is email them and they’ll hook you up!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been so lucky to have had truly exceptional managers and teams throughout my entire professional career. I’ve never (ok rarely!) dreaded going to work, and that’s almost entirely because of the people I’ve had the chance to work with. I can count so many managers (and even peers) who helped me genuinely see my strengths, allowed me to fully bring my whole self to work, gave direct and honest (and supportive) feedback, and collaborated and communicated intentionally!
After nearly two decades of that type of work experience, I began to see that most people aren’t so lucky. I started to develop a growing passion to support other teams and organizations with creating the type of culture where people feel valued, engaged, and ulimately have a good time along the way!
I think the biggest lessons I’ve learned from facilitating to so many people across so teams is that most people really want to be good. They want to be better communicaters, they want to be better listeners, better at feedback and trust. Humans are complex, and interpersonal dynamics in the day to day work can get muddied with challenges. But at the end of the day, I see so much desire to become better from so many people. It’s a real gift as a facilitator and coach to be reminded of that so frequently!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Love this question because I love GR so much!
I live in Easttown and my favorite thing is just to walk these neighborhoods and hit up all my favorite spots! So we might start by walking over to Cherry Street – maybe popping into Bricks and Mortar to look at some books. Then swing into Brewery Vivant and have some local GR beers, cut over to Wealthy Street and head into Mokaya to show them what chocolate art looks and tastes like. Gotta stop by Outside Coffee company and Woosah to two of the coolest spaces GR has to offer.
And finally – my non-negotiable is stopping at Hancock to play ping pong outside and eat a fried chicken sandwhich!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh man! Too many people to name! But generally speaking: – Every single manager I’ve ever had
– Every single person I”ve ever managed
– A cohort of badass women who were ahead of me professionally, pushing me, coaching me, mentoring me! (too many to name -but they know who they are!)
– Teach For America – for fundemantally changing the way I see the world, and for giving me so many amazing professional development opportunities
